I think they should be cancelled too.

I think money drives a lot of decisions today. That saying, 'money makes the world go round' springs to mind

HSBC shareholders affecting the bank's lending ethos (re CO2 emissions). That must have been particularly galling for the Chinese who, if I am not mistaken, still hold the world's top spot for pollution and dirty industry. ***

*** particularly galling because a lot of Asian industry is prepared to forego healthier air in the climb to economic topdog while most western nations tend to buy into the 'greener' climate change policies which may well lead to even more eastern industry dominance this century; and, of course, with dominance comes a rise in prices which will greatly affect our buying ability.


I am pleased I am not the one making the decisions in the advanced nations because, although their governments must be aware, how do they strike the right balance?

'Money talks' seems to be the yardstick more than ever.

I wonder if it is part of their culture not to cancel? would it be seen as embarrassing to their people?

But I do agree that it should be postponed/cancelled. Unfortunately that would be at a tremendous financial loss to them so maybe it is money driving their decision.

There was also a 7.2 earthquake at the same time that the Japanese Olympic Committee was announcing this decision. It was in the northern region of Japan, but the shaking was felt in Tokyo.

Personally, I think that they should be cancelled, especially as it seems that athletes from some countries will have received vaccinations as "special" people, while many others will not have been vaccinated either because their country has refused to give them special treatment or because the athlete personally has refused to be vaccinated before "more important/essential people".
