I was taught at an early age that some of the stones were from Wales, but this report makes an interesting link.

Looking forward to seeing this tonight as my ancestors hail from Pembrokeshire and

as children we spent many happy hours exploring the PRESELI mountains.

I did know about the bluestones at Stonehenge coming from Pembrokeshire.

I am sure that my OH and I were able to get up close around the stones when we were visiting my aunt around 1966 or 1967.

We did not especially visit Stonehenge but when passing we thought we'd stop.

The Celts were late arrivals - Julius Caesar write a little about their origins in his military memoir "Caesar in Gaul". Before them the islands were inhabited by the Picts, Beaker people and who knows who else. A DNA Survey of people in Cheddar ( long term residents only ) showed half had genes going back to the time of Stonehenge.

It is well known that the blue stones came from Pembrokeshire but not known at all that they were second hand stones and had already stood in Wales for over 400 years ! Amazing.

Given the complete lack of foreign aid gift giving at the time I'd guess that the men across the river Severn seized them as war booty. The Druids may have been part of the package.

Like Von, my Ancestors were also from Pembrokeshire, so I'll be watching too. But it's on to record so maybe not until after the weekend :-D

I have always been quite in awe of the way the ancients managed to put those stones on top. Then I saw a photograph on some documentary the other day which showed the steam cranes that did it.

Yes, the Victorian tidied up the site!
