Not quite so sure about the intelligence of the so-called news reporters of today.

There are major bush fires raging to the north and east of Perth with over 59 homes destroyed so far :-(

People are being urged to leave whilst it is safe to do so whilst others have been told that it is to late and they must shelter as best they can.

Ai a News Conference in Perth given by the Police Commissioner and the Commissioner of the Department of Fire and Emergency Services one bright spark (no pun intended) asked the following:

"You are advising people to leave these areas, yet under the current Covid restrictions people are not allowed to leave there homes unless it is for one of the four essential reasons"

The two Commissioners just looked at each other and, metaphorically, you could see them rolling their eyeballs and shaking their heads.

In a brilliant, and very controlled way, the Police Commissioner responded with "Well while the imminent threat of having your house burn down was not uppermost in the minds of those who drafted the Covid Order, I think that we can safely say that an order to evacuate would constitute another essential reason to leave your home.

Currently you can only leave your home for work, essential shopping,(or medical appointments) and for an hours exercise each day.

The only thought that went through my mind was why the idiot reporter did not ask if all the volunteer firefighters were going to be prosecuted for visiting someone else's house when, under the current Covid restrictions, such visits are not permitted.

True, Sharron. Fortunately the residents of the now 71 homes that have been destroyed decided not to obey orders to stay put so there have been no fatalities so far :-)

Dermot, I can't see the connection between your comment and the subject of this thread which I thought covered WA's current lock down, a raging bushfire and a stupid reporter.

A 'please explain' - a phrase sometimes heard (often if you were naughty) for those OHMS . So it makes me wonder about people when I hear them use it.

Yet still no explanation forthcoming?

It's become a catch-phrase in Oz due to the above mentioned Politician, who founded the One Nation Party.

Far from being asked when one was naughty, the phrase literally means 'I don't understand the answer to my question. Please break it down into words and phrases that a toddler can understand.'

And even then the words had all to be monosyllabic (what a beautiful oxymoron that word is)

Sorry, Allan, wrong spelling - he was Hanson too. He was connected to QLD labour movement/union (can't recall which one exactly) and got called Jack but it was not his Christian name. He had a son too and seeing her name made me wonder ......... I can see, however, that she was not Hanson-born but I wondered, if through marriage, they are connected.

Old Jack's long gone but I do recall reading a bit about him during my studies many many moons ago,.

similar to your op, Allan, as you may know it is a condition for FAC holders to shoot several times a year , however it appears that FAC renewals are being refused , on the grounds that the shooter hasn't shot, through the covid year..even though the shooter is shielding and many indoor and outdoor rifle ranges are closed...
