select Start > Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update , and then select Check for updates.

That said Windows 10 will usually install updates as required automatically.
Control Panel is being phased out as it is replaced by "Settings"
Driver updates are no longer automatic.

It is not possible to remove or stop Defender as it is now an intrinsic part of the OS. If another AV is installed such as Trent then it will defer shared functions to the third party program.

Bring back Windows98 all is forgiven. Snarl. I seem to remember that at one time when updates were available a msg would pop up "An update is available to download........" I cant find any way of getting Windows 10 to advise me likewise. Is there such a function in Win 10? Anyone please. Brassed off as cant do owt when Updates are downloading/installing. Me BP is way too high as it is even got to wear a BP monitor for 24 hours next week so aint a happy bunny. Had been trying to get online for over an hour this evening. Brassed off and even more so when checked me settings and found Windows Defender "On" when I've never had it on cos got Trent AV
