Slightly off the subject but when a letter is delivered with a former resident name and you write no longer at this address and post it what happens too it? Does it eventually get to the persons new address?

I underwent a few Christmas weekends working for Royal Mail in a small Devon sorting office.

An amazing experience that made me appreciate the volume of general mail & packages that needs to be sorted by hand.

A busy, noisy building full to the brim with miscellaneous post, noisy machinery that achieves some of the sorting - all for the price of a few stamps.

I have great admiration for the achievements. I would never complain if I was asked to pay a few extra coins occasionally. A job well done.

I would pick it up anyway even though it’s been resent.

Oddly, we have just had a 'not enough postage' form put through our door.

It is probably the item we all assumed was lost. Maybe in that mountain of mail I mentioned.

Now, do we pay it or not bother as it was resent. It was from a relative not something either of us bought.

Paid at the post office in the supermarket. Now I just have to hope my own postie delivers it so it comes to the right address.

I had read about the scam in the local online newspaper and have googled it this morning and there are several reports on it :

There is another report that there are sackloads of undelivered mail!

I can’t pay it online as the address they sent it to doesn’t exist so I can’t set it as the address online.

It was just luck it was our regular postman who knew to deliver it to us. The package is for my father in law who is Mr Owls stepdad so we don’t share a last name.

Royal Mail is expected to deliver down to the last letter/parcel. ;-)

I did have one such card. i did go online and paid £2.00. The next day it was delivered.
I think paying online rather than going to the sorting office is their way of keeping people away because of the virus.
Was strangely funny because the letter was a small package i sent to my dad but they didnt deliver it but returned it to me because i had not put enough postage on it.

i have just realised you are meaning whether to put stamps on the card and return or is it safe to pay online? Well I did online and no problems. i had no way of getting stamps.

I would wait till the next saw the postman and give it to him to take back, having written on the card not at this address. Also they are assuming everyone has a computer.

Definitely a real card from Royal Mail. I saw a lot of them when I was working and the name on the card is not registered at the address but we do take in their post.

I think I’ll go to the Supermarket as then I can kill two birds with one stone.

There appears to be a scam around at the moment asking people to pay an online sum for letters and small packages which they claim can’t be delivered.

Luckily for us we have a small sorting office in our village so we can go and get the items direct.

Want you pay online if someone tries to send you a package and doesn’t pay enough postage. You need to put in the name and address on the card however there is no function to say the address on the card does not exist.

The odd numbered addresses on my street stop at 27 but the even numbered addresses go up to 44. The package has an odd numbered address that doesn’t exist on it however our postman knows that post with that name on it comes to us.

So which risk do I take then the post office or the local supermarket to buy the stamps to pay the difference??? :-|
