Thanks everyone - glad I'm not the only one!

Good idea Joy, but I think I will keep it and give it to my nephew who is a bit interested in family history (but only when it suits him). This certificate is the marriage of my grandmother's half sister, so not a near relative.

Kath,

If you don't want it try contacting the NE Family History Society - based in Newcastle and the last time I was there (more than two years ago) it was above one of the Barclays Bank branches not far from the Eldon Square bus station.

They are given B M and D certificates - mostly from people who have bought the wrong one - and they have a list of what they hold. I believe they sell the unwanted or surplus certificates

I have also ordered the same certificate twice, Kathleen.
First time I had flagged a death certificate but I forgot and ordered it many years later. Doh!
The second death certificate - of my Grandfather - I ordered from Uxbridge.
Three weeks passed ... no certificate!
I bit the bullet and ordered it again and got it within a week or so.
Some time afterward the original certificate arrived!
The bounders sent it sea mail ... never having put the blue air-mail sticker on the envelope!
I always make sure to ask for the blue sticker to be affixed when I order ... be it either verbally or in writing.
Hiccups happen ... and it's SO very annoying ... not to mention a few pounds down the drain, too!

Have done that too

One time it was another copy of one that was wrong anyway

This was before the gro was adding mmn on pre 1911 bmds

Was a double waste of money

:-(

I had a memory. Just received a marriage certificate that I ordered about three weeks ago. The first one I've ordered in years and was really looking forward to receiving..........only to find I have already got this. I bought it 15 years ago :-S :-S
