Thanksgiving Day

Today is Thanksgiving Day in Canada.

It is a day for families and friends to get together, often in large groups, and eat turkey with all the trimmings ............ often a mix of what the Brits would have and what the Americans have as "trimmings". Some people will have had the meal yesterday so they can enjoy the holiday today, but we have always celebrated on the day.

In the past, we have had as many as 14 or 15 people to dinner, had to move the dining table into the living room and add another table to end to fit everyone in.

Not this year ................

covid-19 is on the rise, we've been told to keep to small numbers, ie 6 or less.

I have no idea how many people will actually obey, no newspapers until tomorrow!

But, I do know that this is a foretelling of what Christmas will be like.

There will only be OH and myself today, but that has been our usual for the last 4 or 5 years.

This year, we will be having roast ham, with plum sauce, candied sweet potatoes, brussels sprouts for me and broad beans for OH, and cucumber salad. OH bought some pumpkin tarts for him to eat, to replace the pumpkin pie that I'm not allowed!

Had our Turkey yesterday fitted in best with those that are working all weekend...today leftovers :-D
Still some pumpkin pie left (probably because I don't like it) and some cranberry cake and all the other goodies I made....memo to self need to go walking a lot.
Here we're asked to keep it just to those in our house or if someone is alone they can visit one house but only one visitor....most have followed the request though sadly not all.
Your meal sounds lovely Sylvia :-)

I missed not having turkey, but it is so hard to do fro only 2 people.

The ham was lovely.

Caroline ................ we were not given any definite number, except keep it small.

Thank you, Von and Liz for your good wishes.

I do hope that things will be closer to normal next year!!!

Thank you, everyone.

It's always a great day, even if it was so very different this year.

My daughter didn't even get any dinner! They were supposed to be going to her in-laws for dinner at their new place .......... they are in the family "bubble" allowed in their province.

But first her son then her OH came down with bad sore throats and cold over the weekend, so she cancelled yesterday morning, and even turned down m-i-l's offer to leave dinner on the porch so the family had something to eat.

When I talked to her later in the day, she was making French onion soup, regretting turning down the offer of dinner delivery, and beginning to feel "ropey" herself while the other 2 were recovering!

She still didn't regret not going there ............ f-i-l is just recently out of hospital having been diagnosed with congestive heart failure, so he doesn't need even a cold!
