I don't listen to music at all now, and even when I was young I rarely listened. However, certain songs bring back memories of events or people. My ex loved (loves) Frank Zappa, and when we lived in Shetland, 'Big John', on a trip doon sooth bought Zappa's LP ' Over-Nite Sensation' for him. We lived on the edge of a voe, connected to the mainland by a causeway. John followed the edge of the land (not much 'coast' - just rocks), on foot, all the way to our place. We invited him in but he 'had to get back'!. Anyway, this was one of the tracks that stuck in my mind:
Montana
I might be movin' to Montana soon Just to raise me up a crop of dental floss Raisin' it up Waxin' it down In a little white box That I can sell uptown By myself I wouldn't have no boss But I'd be raisin' my lonely dental floss Raisin' my lonely dental floss
Well I just might grow me some bees But I'd leave the sweet stuff to somebody else But then on the other hand I would Keep the wax 'N melt it down Pluck some floss 'N swish it aroun' I'd have me a crop An' it'd be on top That's why I'm movin' to Montana
Movin' to Montana soon Gonna be a dental floss tycoon, yes I am Movin' to Montana soon Gonna be a mennil-toss flykune
I'm pluckin' the ol' dennil floss That's growin' on the prairie Pluckin' the floss! I plucked all day an' all nite an' all afternoon I'm ridin' a small tiny hoss His name is Mighty Little He's a good hoss Even though He's a bit dinky to strap a big saddle or Blanket on anyway He's a bit dinky to strap a big saddle or Blanket on anyway Anyway I'm pluckin' the ol' Dennil floss Even if you think it is a little silly, folks I don't care if you think it's silly, folks I don't care if you think it's silly, folks
I'm gonna find me a horse just about this big An' ride him all along the border line With a pair of heavy-duty Zircon-encrusted tweezers in my hand Every other wrangler would say I was mighty grand By myself I wouldn't have no boss But I'd be raisin' my lonely dental floss Raisin' my lonely dental floss Raisin' my lonely dental floss
Well I might ride along the border With my tweezers gleamin' in the moon-lighty night And then I'd get a cuppa cawfee 'N give my foot a push Just me 'n the pygmy pony Over by the dental floss bush 'N then I might just Jump back on An' ride like a cowboy Into the dawn to Montana
Movin' to Montana soon (Yippy-Ty-O-Ty-Ay) Movin' to Montana soon (Yippy-Ty-O-Ty-Ay) Movin' to Montana soon (Yippy-Ty-O-Ty-Ay)
Tina Turner & co-singers supplied background vocals as they were taking a break in next studio.

Some songs resonate today just as much as they did when they were written, the faces and technology may change but the underlying issues are ageless.
Ann's and Rollo's choices above Buffy Sainte-Marie - The Big Ones Get Away Eagles - The Last Resort Del Amitri - Nothing Ever Happens Chris Rea - Road to Hell

Yes lots of tributes to her on her you tube recordings. Saw her live in Bristol in the 70s she was lovely and always loved her music. Not just Iam Woman but Angie baby, and no way to treat a lady, well anything she sang really.

Helen Reddy has just died.

Joni went on to be a top notch jazz musician with Charles Mingus. I have always thought that this song, written in the way back when sums up modern times. btw for anybody not aware Joni was reunited with her daighter (Little Green, comning on Christmas)
Big Yellow Taxi
by Joni Mitchell https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2595abcvh2M
They paved paradise And put up a parking lot With a pink hotel *, a boutique And a swinging hot spot
Don't it always seem to go That you don't know what you've got Till it's gone They paved paradise And put up a parking lot
They took all the trees Put 'em in a tree museum * And they charged the people A dollar and a half just to see 'em
Don't it always seem to go That you don't know what you've got Till it's gone They paved paradise And put up a parking lot
Hey farmer farmer Put away that DDT * now Give me spots on my apples But leave me the birds and the bees Please!
Don't it always seem to go That you don't know what you've got Till it's gone They paved paradise And put up a parking lot
Late last night I heard the screen door slam And a big yellow taxi Took away my old man
Don't it always seem to go That you don't know what you've got Till it's gone They paved paradise And put up a parking lot
They paved paradise And put up a parking lot

My fave Ann, a really good foot stomper,
Do I Love You by Frank Wilson.

songs from 60s and 70s, Not sure they write such good songs any more but I suppose this was my era, youth today would say differently
Anybody got any favourites. I love Helen Reddy but I had forgotten about Joni Mitchell.
Both Sides, Now Joni Mitchell
Rows and flows of angel hair And ice cream castles in the air And feather canyons every where Looked at clouds that way But now they only block the sun They rain and snow on everyone So many things I would have done But clouds got in my way I've looked at clouds from both sides now From up and down and still somehow It's cloud's illusions I recall I really don't know clouds at all Moons and Junes and ferries wheels The dizzy dancing way that you feel As every fairy tale comes real I've looked at love that way But now it's just another show And you leave 'em laughing when you go And if you care, don't let them know Don't give yourself away I've looked at love from both sides now From give and take and still somehow It's love's illusions that I recall I really don't know love Really don't know love at all Tears and fears and feeling proud To say, "I love you" right out loud Dreams and schemes and circus crowds I've looked at life that way Oh, but now old friends they're acting strange And they shake their heads, they say I've changed Well something's lost, but something's gained In living every day I've looked at life from both sides now From win and lose and still somehow It's life's illusions I recall I really don't know life at all It's life's illusions that I recall I really don't know life I really don't know life at all Source: LyricFind Songwriters: Joni Mitchell
