That sort of thing annoys the hell out of me, Allan.
I remember a few years ago when a friend and I decided to have coffee in a well known patisserie that had opened where we lived. I was asked whether I would like cream or milk in my coffee and I chose cream.
Imagine my surprise when I paid the bill before leaving to discover that I had been charged 20 pemce for the cream. I queried it of course but paid the 20 pence anyway as it was not a lot. But it went against the grain all the same as I'd never had that extra charge anywhere else. It was years before I went there again and only because a good friend was here and she wanted to try it. She bought me the coffee and I made sure I had milk not cream. I have no intention of ever visiting there again ..... in fact, I'm not st all sure that it is still open.
It was the principle of the thing that really got my back up. :-|

Unfortunately Margaret River is a very expensive area, mainly because of its 'reputation for quality'
I've had better, and cheaper, wines from lesser known areas in WA, as you are not paying a premium for the ;name'

It sounds as if the Italians knew where to have a good value meal.
I'm glad you enjoyed it.
Places which don't include potatoes and other vegetables as part of a full meal are really annoying.
Another annoyance for me is chips stacked Jenga style, I want to eat, preferably hot food, not play games with it.

Last weekend we went to Fremantle to celebrate our wedding anniversary.
After several 'mishaps' which blighted our journey there and put a dampener on the day we eventually ended up in the evening at a bustling Italian Café/Restaurant on the main street.
Usually I try to avoid Italian Restaurants as I find the food to be too creamy and 'artificial', and I'm not a fan of pizzas having only had two in my entire life.
What a difference one experience can make; I had a Calamari dish which was cooked in a Neapolitan sauce....it was fantastic.
There were may Italians also dining at the place so I assume that that is a good indication of how authentic it was.
Also not expensive, the bill for eight of us was just over $200.00 and as for quantity, none of us could finish the main course, never mind sweets.
Now to yesterday when we travelled to the Margret River area to catch up with my brother and part of his family who had been staying in Dunsborough for the weekend.
We had lunch at a winery well off the beaten track which I had never heard of and the choice was entrée and mains or mans and dessert in either case it was a standard $85.00 per head. You could have all three for $99.00.
The presentation of the meals was such that the waitperson actually had to describe what was in it.
OH and I had duck for our mains which consisted of four slices of breast a beetroot 'flower' place on a walnut creamy mash.
Potatoes and salads were extras, not being included in the main dish.
I know where I'd sooner dine!
