Doesn't it remind you of Romania?

Do you mean the Ceausescu regime?

The end of it.

I don't think the end will be as brutal but he is losing his grip on it. It will be very interesting to watch.

It reminds me much more of 1968

A rising star in the KGB, stationed in Prague, was Vladimir Putin.
He has always said that the dissolution of the Soviet E Europe empire was a big mistake. He is hardly encouraging democracy and the rule of law in Russia.
Consider Chechnya, Ukraine, Crimea, Syria, London, Salisbury.
All iron fist no velvet gloves.

Quite possibly the "revolution" will be told to shut up by Berlin while Putin installs a new puppet. And if not a Byelorussian summer will become a winter of discontent. Russia is already under the sanctions cosh for Crimea ad the Ukraine so there is not much short of hot warfare that the EU can do to help. Nordstream is still under construction showing the true lie of the land.

No idea. A colleague is from Vilnius and he is very distrustful of the situation just over the border. I added the YouTube link for those who were not aware of Putin's cv. In the end the Czechs and Romanians remained under the control of the KGB until the fall of the Wall. Putin has been pushing for a big increase In Russian control in Minsk and is def not interested in democracy.

All of the ex USSR states are dangerous and corrupt places.
