I have tried to put a new battery in a watch, I was successful in getting the old one out but now the silly question is, is there such a thing as a washer underneath the battery that dissolved when it was on my finger?

as a guess, could it have been a deposit(leak) from the old battery?

No there isnt ZZZs ,having put many a new battery in,but before you put the new one in I would swab the cell fitting with a little meths or somthing like and let it dry off as any deposits from the old one will corrode.

Thank you both, I hadn’t thought of a leak from the old one and certainly will swab the swab the cell fitting x.

For some while now it has been possible to have a highly accurate wrist watch without the tyranny of battery replacement or the annoyance of winding-up.

I've been digging out old watches during the pandemic - I didn't realise I had so many!

Many were bought for special occasions, or on holiday, and hold memories, as well as being all different styles.

It was nice to put new batteries in, and see them working again - especially the one my children bought me when they were young.
They saved their pocket money for weeks <3
