Just showers this time around, Gwyn. :-)

Although I have to admit that the 'showers' in Oz are a lot heavier than those in the UK, as I found to my cost when we first arrived here. I was going for a job interview and the forecast was for showers. By the time I reached the bus stop, a two minute walk from where we were staying, I was soaked to the skin. Needless to say, I didn't go for the interview :-D

There is no differentiation between 'light' showers and 'heavy' showers.

At least there is no wind forecast :-D

..and is there still a threat of bad weather at the weekend?

I hope all will be well.

Thanks, Barbra :-)

The hall is almost ready for the Painter. The chap who came to repair the plasterboard has to come back next Tuesday to do the final touches.

He was pretty good as he filled some other damaged areas which were not caused by the storms. Those areas I'm going to have to paint myself :-D

Its very good, Sylvia.

The unit is fitted in the lounge, but situated so that it also flows through into the family room.

We've used it quite a bit recently when the day temperatures have been a little too high to require our wood burning fire to be lit, then when evening comes and the temperature falls, the aircon gives out almost immediate heat.

The drawback of course is that as soon as it is turned off, the drop in temperature is almost immediately noticeable.

In summer it has been a go-send as our house faces West to East so we cop both the morning and afternoon sun.

Thanks Allan.

I'm slowly getting there!

How do you find the reverse cycle air conditioner??

They're quite popular here.

Allan Report 22 Jul 2020 21:50

Hi, Sylvia, its good to see you posting again :-)

No, we decided to have it removed altogether. The Insurance would have covered the cost of replacement with a new unit, but we haven't used the old one for a number of years now.

We could have done with it last summer as the weather pattern changed and we no longer got the afternoon breeze (the Fremantle doctor)

There is a reverse cycle air conditioner downstairs

Are you getting a new air conditioner that is not on the roof?

or will you have to suffer through the summer?

Allan

Allan Report 22 Jul 2020 09:41

Thanks, Tawny :-)

The insurance payout for the hall includes repainting, Gwyn, but the three outlets for the aircon in the bedrooms can either be left, or removed at our expense.

We have decided to have them removed and the ceiling made good and then at least paint the ceilings.

When the guy comes on Friday to do the hall ceiling, we'll ask for a quote for the bedrooms, but I'll paint the ceilings myself..

Goodness... What a busy time, but at least they all turned up and didn't keep you waiting for their attendance.

Does that mean you will have to do some home decorating now?

I hope all holds firm during the next onslaught of wild weather.

Hopefully not too much damage is done when the weather turns at the weekend Allan.

On the damage caused to our house in the storms a ew weeks ago.

On Monday the roof mounted air conditioner was removed, and on Friday the hall celling is to be repaired and then repainted.

We will have to wait for some time for the fence to be replaced.

The removal of the air-conditioner was rather unusual in that the first tradie to turn up at 0800 was the tiler. He should have been the last!

Then , in quick succession we had the plumber, electrician and the air con people themselves turn up.

Finally, the poor roof tiler returned three hours later to retile the area of roof that had housed the unit :-D :-D

Further storms are forecast for the weekend :-|
