It's also good to know that son in law and potential son in law know how to appease the ma-in-law/potential ma-in-law :-D :-D :-S

Maggie
I think you should start worrying when they STOP your special deliveries ;-)

True, Kay, but they're more likely to be springs!
I have a 1940's bed, with a spring metal frame, and a spring mattress on top - soooo cosy! :-D
Under my bed, however, if memory serves me right, there is a laminator (used once) a weird knitting machine (never used), a Christmas tree and a few boxes of 'stuff' :-D :-D

They might think those lumps under your mattress are a hoard of £££s. Maggie.

I have an almost pathological dislike of showers and haven't had one for many years, ( I do have frequent baths I hasten to add ) so was 'delighted ' when my husband gave me a special radio which was for use in the shower as a Christmas present several years ago!

I do have my icons, Gwyn.
No, they're not on show - but they are all in one place! :-D
I really must get them out! :-D

Maggie

Do you still have your collection of tacky icons and if so, are they on show?

Oh, ZZzzzz that's so annoying, and to my mind - a waste of money!

I have to admit, me and my siblings etc have never bought each other presents, not even as children - and as I'm the youngest, I was only following their lead. :-D

Having said that, one brother gave me a couple of sets of dolls house dolls about 6 years ago..
He bought them to transform into crew on his model boats, but they were the wrong size.
My other brother gave me a present on my 60th - a bonsai pot that he had made,

My children are forbidden to buy me any 'things' that may just add to the clutter..
I'll give them a long list of 'useful' things, like a years subscription to a family history website (which I specify), some moisturiser, perfume or make up (and I specify which, as I'm allergic to lanolin) or some particular books off Amazon ( I refuse to personally use Amazon!)
They can choose which they buy. I also ask for a list from them, and the grandchildren.

My sister in law would buy me the most useless presents, one year it was an umbrella knowing I cycled everywhere, another was a book on how to sew and knit etc knowing I had the entire Golden Hands collection, and yet another was a book on how to make wine knowing we didn’t drink it then.

Well Maggie, being your daughter she obviously knows you well. Which explaind my last two birthday presents from son where first a large bottle of malt and second a case of wine, oh and the advent calendar which was one year all whiskeys, the second year, all gins.

It depends so much on how the shop's indexing works! Some time ago I searched "tinned fish" for store cupboard but was only offered pages of cat food!

maggiewinchester Report 6 Jun 2020 14:32

Susie, I've got two 14 year old cats - they're here all the time - honest! :-S
Unless they're in the garden. :-D

Island - nibbles for me, or the cats?
The mention of cheese - I now want some stilton!

ZZzzz I asked her if she could get some tins of cat food from the local 'big' supermarket if she was passing - it's 2 bus rides for me.
Sachets alone don't last too long. :-(
Wine, for me, is a superb plan - but I'm sure the powers that be wouldn't consider it 'essential' :-D :-D

Cat food for her cat??? Wine for you sounds like a plan to me :-D

Do you actually have a cat?? If so, does it drink wine or do you only see it after you've imbibed? ;-)

I've just had a delivery from the internet.
I didn't order it, my daughter did.
She has all deliveries to me addressed to 'Granny' :-(

I'm not sure what I should 'read' into what she considers 'essentials' for me.

So far, she's sent me 2 huge boxes of cat food.
Today, it was another huge box of cat food (84 sachets) -
and 6 bottles of wine! :-D :-D :-D :-D :-S :-S :-S :-S
