I think the journalists do repeat questions hoping to "catch the politicians out"

They call them "gotcha" questions :-) really!

Barbra Report 30 Apr 2020 11:06

A very difficult time for all RIP all who have lost their lives thinking of familys & friends The news is all about the virus we have to keep strong & Safe don't watch news all the time just updates. the press have always been intrusive Think some things need to be reported but ott every bulletin Barbara

Kense

Kense Report 30 Apr 2020 10:36

As Boris is leading the briefing today, perhaps the repeated questions will finally be answered.

Dermot Report 30 Apr 2020 09:33

Good news is in short supply.

All doom and gloom news-wise here too...so I don't watch as much each day. Trying to take potshots at our Provincial leader as they never liked him before the virus...when in fact he's being very calm and tackling many issues head-on..face mask available on a Sunday fine he rolled up in his truck to take delivery to save one day when every hour matters...he may not be everyone cup of tea normally but right now he's getting his hands dirty to get the job done....trouble is the news can't have positive it's got to be negative stories.

Have to admit, I haven't watched the news for months - and have watched one 'update'.
I look at a couple of papers online, then I can see statistics, and anything relevant that was said at the 'updates.

Allan Report 29 Apr 2020 21:56

Not much different over here except that we have daily updates from both the Federal and State Governments.

Fortunately, at the State level things are looking up with some restrictions starting to be eased.

I think that the age of true journalism has long passed and we are now in the age of sensationalism. :-(

Kense

Kense Report 29 Apr 2020 21:36

I quite agree with you Sharron. They should shorten the news programmes rather than padding them out with such personal details.

As for the daily update, that is just a Government political broadcast with only selected journalists allowed to answer selected questions.

KathleenBell Report 29 Apr 2020 21:14

I think the politicians and experts have enough to do at the moment rather than be on TV every night.

We used to watch every day to find out about the number of deaths and if anything different was being advised.

Now I think an update once a week would be enough and I agree that the journalists should stop asking questions that no one at the moment has the answer to.

Let the experts get on and do their jobs.

AnninGlos Report 29 Apr 2020 21:07

I have stopped watching the late news because, sad though I am for all those who have sadly died, I really don’t want the derails repeated from earlier news about all the deaths in detail. Just before I go to bed.

Yes why do journalists keep asking the same questions do they think they will get a different better answer if they repeat them often enough.

LaGooner Report 29 Apr 2020 19:13

The same is happening in this household. As you same sad times but the Media milk it to the last and it is driving us mad too

The media are driving me nuts too.
All doom and gloom. They are exploiting victims like you say.

I have had to stop watching the daily update as I get so angry at the
stupid repeated questions the media ask.

Sharron

Sharron Report 29 Apr 2020 18:48

This is a horrible time, I know, and there are a great number of deaths. Many families are grieving but I am not sure what is being achieved by the television intruding on their grief to the extent they are.

It is not news, it is morbid intrusion. Tonight a woman showed us all, from the outdoors, the upstairs room where her husband, who has dementia, is dying of Covid virus Why?

I think it is exploiting victims for the sake of milking the most coverage.
