A lack of vitamin B could cause cracked nails.
I take thyroid medication, and my nails are incredibly strong - but I also eat a lot of fish, meat, eggs and dairy products.(Vitamin B12)
I also, occasionally (recommended by my doctor) take folic acid, which is good for memory in us old 'uns, and has Vitamin B9 in it.

Just thought I would mention that a small crack or split can be strengthened by painting the area with clear nail polish and laying a single layer of tissue paper, kitchen paper etc over the split then painting again with clear Polish or coloured to match other painted nails.

My nails do split across where they leave the nailbed at the top but not very often. I don't take good care of them, as I should.

My hair has always been thin and fine even as a child and since my 50s I have been very thin on top. A year ago I saw a hairbrush on a programmes about new inventions. It was called The Manta and was designed by a hairdresser whose wife had hair loss after cancer treatment. Altho it was expensive (£25) I ordered one. It's gentle on tangled hair and now after 6 months use I no longer have a really wide parting. It feels amazing - I was very concious of my scalp showing.

I wonder if rubbing in coconut oil or vitamin e oil would help nails. I do take Omega 3 capsules.

Healthspan do a Hair and Nail Strengthener supplement in tablet form. I’ve not tried it but I am considering it as my nails flake. The reviews seem to be good. I use Healthspan for other products and they are very reliable.

Are you on any medication?

My nails are always breaking and cracking and they are a complete mess. However so is my hair. It is very thin and falls out all the time and my hairdresser says it is probably partly due to the fact that I am on thyroid medication so I suppose this could be the same with my nails.

Short nails are in fashion at the moment as they're less likely to harbour the Corona virus underneath, and easier to wash properly.

I think it is more mechanical than medical.

Try my way for six weeks because I know it really works. I do have to file off some of the gross bits as they grow and it does take time to get them all any length.

Nails is a lockdown project and I still have one middle finger that shows how well the others are doing.

Have you tried using nail oil

Hand cream too massaged into the nails may help

I have a problem with the right hand thumbnail that wants to split downwards in the same place

I have tried lots of things but nothing works but keeping the nail shot seems to stop it

I do have a manicure every six weeks and sometimes have the gel varnish hold it

Google seems to suggest fits an age related problem

I’m hoping for some suggestions for tablet or powder to take orally, nothing else works.

Just keep them painted.

If I want to grow the tissue paper that comes out of the end of my fingers into claws I paint on a coat of clear varnish every day. It forms a support for what passes for my finger nails so they are stuck to a thick piece of nail varnish.

They crack and split for no reason I keep them short but they also crack in the pink bit I’ve tried the paint on stuff, that doesn’t work so I’m hoping someone somewhere will have tried some in tablet form that actually work.
