Rollo, are you Donald Trump really?

Highly likely to be an 'act of human'. Bad practice, wrong choices.
Being struck by lightning could be described as an 'act of god' i.e. nature.

I have a booking for flight tickets to go to UK on Wednesday returning 13th May - given options of rearrange with no admin costs, have coupons or money - have opted for money and had it confirmed.

Also had theatre tickets booked and confirmed money to be returned.

Both state due to the numbers they are dealing with it may take several days - I am quite happy with that as they may not have all their staff in to enable them to have spaces between people.

Where did that virus come from then? Did somebody make it?

Thee may have been mistakes in the control of the virus but that was after it had occurred.

The current situation is very far from being an "Act of God" , it is an umnitigated balls up from Wuhan to NYC by way of Paris, Rome and London.

For a few pounds extra you can insure for cancelled trips whatever the reason and then don't depend on the carrier for a refund. Earlier this year we got refunds for flights to Denver no trouble at all.

I never use travel agents anyway.

Act of God?
I don't think so!

Sharron..... PLEASE DON'T PUT IDEA,S IN THEIR HEADS, you know what holidays & insurance company are like.

Sharron Report 27 Apr 2020 16:29

Having thought about this, I am wondering if there will be any refunds at all.

This current situation must be an Act of God and I didn't think it wa possible to insure against that.

My sister normally has a non-refundable 'half the cost' deposit for organisations who book the campsite - otherwise they don't bother turning up, or cancel at the last minute - thus depriving another organisation of a booking.
During the lockdown, she's (obviously) giving those due to camp during the lockdown a full refund.
However, she's got a couple of organisations trying to cancel, and demanding a full refund for bookings in July, and later in the year, when no-one has any idea of what the situation may be.
The lockdown may be over and schools may be back - in which case they can camp!

But one of the airlines has said they would go out of business if they gave the passengers their money back.

Personnally I would take them to the small claims court which was advised on tv this morning by one chap.

I think the airlines annd travel/holiday agents are trying to take the piss.

What about peoples bank accounts they need the money back so they can think about having a holiday in Britain.

Would you like to lose thousands of pounds and have either vouchers/credit notes,

“Those people” may now be out of work and not eligible for government funding...every little helps to feed their families and pay their bills. People will have larger electricity and gas bills with the lockdown.

ZZzzz Report 22 Apr 2020 15:04

We just have to bite the bullet it isn’t anyone’s fault, lose the money and not have the holiday, not good news for some but better than catching the Coronavirus. I expect all that will go down like a lead balloon.

Sharron

Sharron Report 22 Apr 2020 14:35

The holiday companies are doing what they can in an unprecedented situation and they are not able to bring in more staff.

Had there not been a pandemic, those people would not have had that money anymore. It would no longer have been available to them.

ZZzzz

ZZzzz Report 22 Apr 2020 14:29

I don’t book my holidays abroad through a travel agent so I reckon I might lose out or have a fight on my hands.

Maybe in the middle of pandemic.

But they need cash back not credit notes/vouchers like they have been offered.

I think it's disgusting of the airlines/holiday agents not to give cash back.

Sharron

Sharron Report 22 Apr 2020 13:29

Now people on the news are complaining about not getting holiday refunds quickly enough.

Contractually, they should be recompensed within fourteen days but have had to wat longer.

Normally they would have a very strong case and great sympathy but I really think they should be told we are in the rips of a worldwide pandemic.Everybody is doing their best to rectify the situation, it is not their fault.
