I once did a big merchandizing job in one of the big names but a smaller branch.

Went in at 11,45 and the frozen delivery was on the conveyor belt they used to take it upstairs. It was Birds Eye stuff, frozen chicken and all the other meaty things were there and , when I left at 14,30, they still were!

They’ve won awards for some of their own brand booze.

i have used both Aldi and Lidl for some time, and I prefer their brands of some of their products more than the brand names. Also find that both Aldi and Lidl fresh meat is very good too.

I used Aldi and Lidl far more than anywhere else before the lockdown. Never had a problem with anything and lots of their own brand things are just as good as brand named goods.I

The quick turnover of fresh fruit and veg means it's always good value.

There is less selection , but I think that what there is is as good or even better than the major supermarkets and very much cheaper.

When Fred was alive, my weekly outing was to do the shopping on a Sunday.

In general, I would do 'the shop' in Aldi and then go to Lidl for the fruit and veg I don't think I actually had any good reason to think Lidl greengrocery was any more fresh than Aldi, but when did I ever find logic to be relevant.

Do not eat the pickled gherkins from Lidl. You would be better off doing heroin, it is slightly less addictive!

Your money goes a lot further at Aldi and Lidl and we actually prefer some of their versions to our usual brands since trying them. I love their hazelnut chocolate for example! :-D

Phyll,
You have to be prepared to try brand names that you are not used to, but the quality compares favourably with other supermarkets.
They do sell some well-known brands, usually on 'special' buys.

Fresh meat is also good. We had a really tender gammon joint last week and fresh chickens are good too.
The prices are good, especially for that week's special offers.

Aldi is my most used shop, great value and quality.

I think so.

There are one or two things where I must have the proprietary brand, Heinz salad cream, Kelloggs cornflakes, Taylors Yorkshire loose tea and one or two other things but , other than that, Aldi and Lidl are just as good.

Is it as good as any other supermarket?
Opinions would be welcomed.
Keep safe
