Idid wonder about the grandchildren sue. they must have found it all very hard. So, good that they have been able to visit. A difficult time made even more difficult by the virus. Stay strong Sue, thinking of you <3 <3

At the moment many are living in their own little bubble, oblivious to how life is affecting others.

Even on normal times children don’t always understand death and it is much worse for them now so I am glad they were all able to come and see you and do their but to help.

(Auto correct wanted to say Allan came to see you :-S ;-) :-S :-D

Thanks all, the grandkids do help because they make me do 'Nana things' like make home made rolls with them.

Saturday I've promised we all make pizza (they will roll out their own into what passes as a circle and add the toppings of their choice).

Volunteers to help clean the kitchen afterwards are very welcome lol

Mr Owl and I had to leave the house for a long drive today as it was grandma’s funeral in Slough. 800 miles in a day is no fun but necessary as he wanted to say goodbye. There was only four of us and social distance was maintained.

Tawny Report 15 Apr 2020 18:57

Around 150 miles to get home now.

Tawny ........

.......... I'm glad that you and Mr Owl were able to make the journey and say goodbye to his grandmother, but you would not have been able to travel that distance here.

Many people are having to say goodbye by video, or even without any means of seeing or hearing the funeral. Or else the person is being buried, often with no one there, and a Celebration of Life will be held later by the family.

In fact, the number of cremations is increasing, and people are then holding on to the ashes until it is possible to hold a Celebration of Life

Yes basically the same in Canada. Quebec are even banning trips into Quebec from Ontario unless essential. No one is being checked by the police to see if they're driving only to the store but that said the roads are basically empty compared to normal...so yes some people will drive a bit further to take their dogs for a walk. My dog is content with numerous long walks locally just keep trying to mix them up a bit to keep us both awake :-D

Similar to WA. All land borders with other States (NT and SA) are now closed to everybody, with a few exceptions, even West Australians.

Within WA which is divided into nine 'regions' you cannot travel from one region to another without a written exemption.

Easter weekend was the quietest we've ever known here. No one travelling from the Metropolitan area down to Margaret River, where many have holiday homes.

Incidentally, my daughter has an exemption to travel throughout the WA as she works for a transport company....no, not as a driver as you may have at first thought. She works in their head office in Donnybrook and is the one who organises the various permits to travel both intra and inter State :-S

I think it's the same here too, Sylvia and Caroline.

Lockdown permits only a trip to food shops and pharmacies and exercise (eg walk) in one's own locality only, always keeping at least two metres away from people from another household and defo no mixing with people from another household - which is, I think, standard practice in Canada too.

One lot of neighbours hasn't quite grasped the non-mixing aspect and he, with a heart condition, ought to know better.

Another neighbour, if she knows, must be infuriated - she is an older intensive care sister and not far off retirement. Always pleasant, she has my admiration .... she works in the same unit as my friend's daughter and I know she is annoyed that this kind of thing is still happening.

I expect you have your fair number of 'I am above the law' people in Canada too but I have no idea how their pig-headedness is treated in your country.

Is the urban population treating the law differently from country folk? Or are all good?

Strange times breed strange people methinks. :-(

Tawny Report 16 Apr 2020 08:23

Travel for a funeral was the other exemption here but I expect they didn’t think people would drive 400 miles each way. Having said goodbye to grandma neither Mr Owl or myself have any intention of travelling that far again till this is over. Including a trip to the supermarket we hadn’t left a mile and a half radius of our house since this started. No meeting other households either unless you count our downstairs neighbours two year old granddaughter when she spotted one of cats hanging out the flat window. Yesterday it was a case of just waving at people.

We passed three police cars on our way down. Not one of them bothered with us.

Tawny you have done what you wanted to do a very long journey in these awfull times very hard for people to pay respects to relatives. freinds who are losng their lives tragic ..At the moment police are few & far between in our village .last night on the news it said the Police dont like stopping people not their job .but who else is their know from incident this week with neighbour seems true. Anyway stay safe & Remember Your lovely Gran. your OH has his memories of her Barbara <3

JoyLouise

JoyLouise Report 16 Apr 2020 11:14

It's good that you got back safely, Tawny, and I believe you're right in stating that the authorities did not anticipate such long journeys to attend funerals.

It is the funeral of a friend this week and our crem has limited attendance to five maximum. (I have no idea whether that is the norm across the country.) His widow is hoping to hold a memorial service when the crisis is over.

My OH and I are isolating because we are both over 70 and one of us is not 100% fit. We have not put a foot off the drive. There are a lot of law enforcement officers and NHS staff around us who know us (we live a very short distance from local hospital and police headquarters) but the main reason we have followed the rule rigidly is common sense and the guilt we would feel at betraying our neighbours who are obviously in the thick of it at present.

Kuros Report 17 Apr 2020 18:32

My husband and I have both had the virus. A neighbour who works in A&E was in our house one day and tested positive the next. I had it three days later and my husband two days after that. We were both really poorly and it's taken about three weeks to get over it fully. We are both over seventy but, fortunately, fit and well so we came out the other side. It really annoys me seeing our neighbours' grandchildren being taken in their house every day while their mother goes to work. They have a father at home who has never worked and won't look after his own children. The children's mother is a nurse so the children could be in school. The children are often out on our street which means people living here cannot walk outside their homes.

I really think some people are too thick to realise the danger - or they just don't want to.

Sorry to read you had the virus wouldn't be very nice for you but glad your on the mend a few Neighbours are not staying in one couple going out of the village by car to walk their dogs every day, plenty of places near here some just don't want to be asked to stay home or near home Keep well now Take Care Barbara x

Sad to hear that you and your husband had the virus but good to hear of your recovery, Annie. It must have been an ordeal from which you could only hope, pray or both to recover from.

I agree entirely with you by the way - that comment about thick people. Don't you just wonder about people who think that rules aren't meant for them! :-|

Tawny Report 17 Apr 2020 19:41

Mr Owl and I are back to our bubble of supermarket and house now. We have two house cats so no issues with walkies. Our downstairs neighbour now has her son, daughter in law and granddaughter living with her in a small two bedroom flat though. They weren’t there in March.

There could be a problem with someone being made redundant, Tawny, and not being able to pay rent. It doesn't sound like an ideal situation.
It's all very well the Government making rules and regulations, but more often than not, people 'fall through' Government failings.
