You don't need the right beer at all.

I have just made some with a 2per cent bitter that costs £1 for tins in Sainsbury's.

One type of medieval bread, possibly maslen read, I can't remember, was made with beer froth.

Thanks Sharron . Allan will have a look can't get yeast so will try something else :-)

You'd need the right beer. Some bottled beers are pasteurised which kills off any further yeast activity.

If you know anyone who does home brewing scrounge a bottle off them.

Otherwise, although it's a clat, you can make your own sourdough starter; plenty of recipes on-line :-)

The only place I can see it on-line it is in a foreign language but I expect you can translate it .

You might not be able to get yeast or, indeed bread flour but there is a very good recipe for beer bread several ties on-line. Self-raising flour, beer and a bit of sugar. I have just made some that I have put salt in for flavour and it has risen but I have not tasted it yet.

I have been through several and would recommend making bread with a mixer. Bread makers over work the dough and give the bread a poor texture.

There is a brilliant recipe I can recommend. It is probably on-line. Mrs Zacharova's bread which i pretty foolproof.
