	Ann, I think you are probably right about different areas. I have no directional hearing, because I have virtually no hearing in one ear. My latest NHS aid uses Cros system, where a receiver in my 'good' ear picks up wireless signals from a microphone in the other ear. This means there is a more natural all round quality of sound. I particularly notice the benefits if I am in a large room with many people. eg. school classroom. Another plus is that if I am front seat passenger with my daughter driving, I can hear her if she speaks to me rather than just hear the roar of traffic picked up by my previous aid.

	It is strange that people find it acceptable to laugh at the hard of hearing, but wouldn't dream of laughing at the sight impaired.

	Sylvia get new smoke detectors! The new ones are VERY loud and you can get them with lights on them....if the shock doesn't kill you it will save you from a fire!

OH is supposed to go and get a) new battery-operated ones, because the hard-wire ones alone are useless if we have a power outage, so I want the added safety, and , b) he was supposed to get the ones with lights for hard-of-hearing. He hasn't got to that store yet. Nag, nag, nag :-D
