Give it a rest, Rollo.

I'm sure that very many users of these Boards have rellies working in the Health Systems of their respective countries, or are even employees in such areas themselves.

Resorting to childish name calling doesn't form a very good basis for a logical argument either.

I don't know about the UK, but in Oz we are getting very mixed messages from our Pollies and top medical advisers and it seems that the old don't do as I do, do as I say is creeping in

Of course you could 'cite opinions of your own rellies who work in the NHS', RTR.
You apparently have 'rellies' who are 'high up' in every profession.

Someone with an underlying, potentially fatal condition is not a 'general hypothesis'.

You assume my sister in law lives and works in Hampshire - please elucidate on your assumption.

Just for a laugh - and to prove it's not more bullsh*t - name the registrar.
..and no we don't want to know the opinions of your alleged rellies, we're unlikely to find them interesting. Besides which, I'm sure you've already let us know.

I'm well past 70. Today I had a visit from my GP's district nurse, unexpectedly.

Took my blood pressure and was kind enough to cut my toe nails <3

I'm sorry Barbra, but there's only so much bullsh*t and lies I can take from someone who is totally up himself, and whose sole aim in life is to attempt to put others down to inflate his own sagging ego.

Sorry RTR - " Your sil state of health is not a reason" Really?
Sister in law is a NURSE - she works in a HOSPITAL, a CONSULTANT said she should self-isolate.
She has LEUKEMIA it may be a slow-acting one - but she still has it.

So you think you know more than a consultant, do you?
Or do you think everyone spouts bullsh*t like you do?

I posted on another thread that one of my brothers is 71 - and renovating an old smithy by himself - I'm well aware that over 70's can be very healthy - but those younger can have underlying problems.

It's about time you stopped pretending you're an expert on everything, and also cut the cr*p and lies you spout.

Rollo .................

You know better than the employers or doctors about Maggie's sister-in--law.????

Un- b****y-believable!!!!

maggiewinchester Report 17 Mar 2020 18:07

My sister in law (aged 65) - a nurse - has been told to self isolate for a month.
She hasn't got coronavirus, but has got Chronic lymphocytic leukemia (slow acting leukemia).
It's going to drive her mad - she hates not doing anything! It also means she can't do her other job - as an advisor at the CAB.
My brother is going to give up his job - driving s community bus for the elderly, as he obviously doesn't want to run the risk of picking anything up and passing it on to his wife.
He'll be okay, though, 'boredom' wise - he builds working model boats or full scale motorbikes!

As I read it Rollo, you are right in that those over 70 (among other categories) with other underlying health problems should not go out for 12 weeks. Those over 70 should take extra care and only go out if unavoidable and should then stay away from other people. I can see that very soon all over 70s will join the first category and we are prepared for that. We just need to be able to go to the hairdressers Friday or we will be like old ?English sheepdogs. We checked with the hairdresser when we popped to the pharmacy earlier and they have a large notic on the door and they will ask anyone with a cold or cough not to enter the shop. We did go to our small Tesco and got everything I had on the list as we were early and they were re-stocking the shelves. I feel sorry for the staff as they can't avoid mixing with people.

Rollo, it will come. We decided to self-isolate on Saturday, as did several of our friends who fall into the health problematic group or whose partners do

We believe that if one of a couple has significant health problems it is reasonable to expect both partners to self-isolate for there is the possibility of the healthy one of a pair bringing home the virus.

None of us is willing to take that risk and all of us decided not to wait for further instructions.

Our daughter dropped the newspaper through our letterbox this morning as she picked it up returning from dropping grandson at school. We can read online or order delivery as I told her when I rang to thank her.

I did not feel quite so ancient when she told me that there was a little old lady in the queue, 'Older than you Mum!' :-D

(She did give the little old lady her number in case the neighbours who were going to look in on her failed to do so.)

Well as from today hubby and myself are self isolating.

Really upset about not seeing the twin grandaughters as we've looked after them since they were born 6 1/2 years ago and are real little darlings.

We will just have to face time them and make do with that.

Take special care all of you out there especially those of you like us who have health problems. <3 <3

Politicians should have no fear of catching this disease... they've always been isolated from the general public and living in their own little bubble :-P

maggiewinchester

maggiewinchester Report 16 Mar 2020 21:15

I had to laugh when a politician said that if one member of a family had coronavirus, they were to isolate themselves in one room and use a separate toilet!

Yes, because we ALL have at least 2 toilets don't we?
Our mansions also have multiple en-suites.

To get to my bathroom, you have to go downstairs, through the living room - and the loo is between the living room and kitchen.
You could go out the front door, and in the back door - thus avoiding the living room - but then you have to go through the kitchen

Elizabeth, told not to travel but maybe you could go if you are driving.

AnninGlos

AnninGlos Report 16 Mar 2020 21:09

So the whole country is in lockdown but left to individuals to comply being asked not to visit pubs, clubs etc and to keep a distance from other people. Self isolation for those with existing health problems and pregnant women and over 70s self isolating from the weekend for 12 weeks. Anyone showing symptoms cough, fever to self isolate with rest of family for fourteen days and not to go to shops.

Allan

Allan Report 16 Mar 2020 21:01

I'm over 70, in fact 72 today (17th) OH is younger. She said that if something similar to forced isolation is brought in here I can go and sleep in the garage :-|

I did point out that I would be the one that was being isolated and that I would need access to sanitary and cooking facilities so SHE could use the garage.

Having her freedom means that she could use public toilets, well those not vandalised, and eat in cafes, well those not closed due to the crisis :-P :-D :-D
