We are members of the U3A but, as I am sure you will understand, I hang about in the background, not wanting to lead anybody anywhere and not knowing enough to give a talk.

Have not even ventured into a group yet.

You'll have to keep your distance Pat. I can understand why everything is in abeyance at the moment.

I go to All About Books which is a book group. We discuss what we have read in the last month. We are not told what to read, that means we hear about authors/books we wouldn't normally consider reading. One of my books last month was a Cadfael and 2 wanted more info as the story and time in history interested them.

I am a member of the C3A committee and have also been asked to give a talk at an open meeting soon on family history. However the open meetings and groups have now stopped because of the coronavirus being on the island. Have to wait and see when we get the all clear.

It's 10 euro per year to be a member.

Are you enjoying the C3A, Pat? What kinds of courses does your 3A do?

When I retired I joined the U3A and lead the Lectures and Visits Group for about three years. I varied the talks as we had men and women in our group with a variety of interests.

Eventually, I gave it up to do more voluntary work but after ten years of retirement I gave everything the shake to spend more time with friends at coffee mornings and lunches - not to mention dancing. :-D

I did the course at the same time as Pat, and that was following your post of a couple of years ago, Sharron.

It may have been longer than that, but I seem to be losing all sense of time :-D

Yes, and it's been updated since I did it. A friend has recently redone the course and told me they do more on DNA and added more recent info. :-D

I am the leader of a C3A Family History - same as U3A in UK and I recommend it to the group.

You are a connoisseur of these courses, Pat. Is it any good?

I have done the course it takes you through how to search documents etc and also includes DNA. Shows you about primary/secondary sources and some of the problems you may encounter.

Future Learn is part of the Open University and this course comes from the University of Strathclyde.

It's called 'Discover the basics of genealogy', and I think it is very basic!
I suppose, there's a chance, on the 8 week free one, you may get access, though more likely, just information, to loads of different genealogical sites, which would help you choose which one to pay for
