I have done a thorough search and came across a central Moscow hotel which was stated to be wheelchair accessible. From memory it was central to most if not all of the main tourist attractions. If anyone has any information or feels like having a little look I would be most grateful. Regards

Are you thinking of visiting Moscow? I haven’t looked for hotels for you but make sure anywhere you want to visit has suitable facilities as Russia generally is not as disabled friendly as you might expect. OH and I visited Russia in 2017 and were struck by the lack of wheelchairs, mobility scooters etc on the streets. We asked our young Russian guide about facilities for less able people and he told us that shops etc often try to help but there were no laws or rules about them having to provide access.

Would it be worth you going to a travel company that specialises in Russia? We went to a local travel agent who organised our trip with Russia specialists Regent Holidays but there are other companies. We wanted to be independent so our holiday was tailor made for us and everything went very smoothly (not cheap though!).

Thank you for your message. We have found a travel agents who can provide everything but always we have to find a hotel. I have also emailed an man who is English and living in Russia who provides accessible taxis around the area including day excursions. Regards

I went many years ago Mark you'll have a great time hopefully but don't go in winter if you can help it :-) A thing to watch out for right in Moscow is they tend to have very wide roads so crossing them can be interesting without a wheelchair even. Places like Red square unless they've changed it have cobbles.

We went at the end August/beginning Sept. and, apart from one day when it bucketed down non-stop, we had lovely weather. Caroline’s right about the roads - 8 lane highways and nothing gives way. Are you planning to visit anywhere other than Moscow? We went to Moscow, Suzdal, Vladimir and St Petersburg. Suzdal is a lovely little town where a lot of the houses are very traditional- lots of carved wood. We also went on the overnight sleeper train from Vladimir to St Petersburg and that was an experience in itself.

As Caroline said, you will have a great time and I wish I was coming too. Once we were over the pre-trip problems of getting a visa and getting medical prescriptions translated into Russian etc. we had a wonderful time and wish we could have stayed longer.

May can be a tad fresh but nothing compared to winter :-D

There used to be a lovely ice cream shop just around the corner of Red Square, they eat ice cream year-round :-D

Have you tried googling the hotel, and see if there have been any reviews on that hotel posted on the travel sites, such as booking.com, tripadvisor, trivago, hotels.com, expedia, etc etc

The penalty you will pay is that you will get those sites popping up later, but they are the only way I know to get real information on hotels, restaurants, etc, but always with the proviso to read as many reviews as you can, and remember that often the only people who post have an axe to grind, especially for restaurants.

I always do this every time I'm looking for a hotel in a new place.


We have been to St Petersburg, but back in the 1970s .......... what I do remember is that many hotels, restaurants, museums, etc were in places that were 200 or 300 years old. Thus there were always steps, narrow corridors, no elevators etc.

There is little that can be done to make a very old building truly accessible ........... as I've found even in the UK. I'm not in a wheelchair, but I cannot climb stairs or walk long distances.
