It's terrible for those in the East, Sylvia :-(

Now, I'm not sure which law it is, but WA is expecting the first cyclone of the season :-0

Again, unless there is a major shift this should not affect us.

I'm pleased to hear that you are safe, and so are your family and friends.

I have a lot of friends in NSW, Victoria, Canberra and Queensland, so have been worried for them. Luckily they don't seem to have been threatened by fires, but the smoke has been horrendous.

A friend from here is visiting friends in Sydney, and they've spent much of their time indoors away from the smoke and in air conditioning to avoid the heat. Same with friends in Canberra.

The day I discovered that, when I was about 7 or 8 years old, I thought I had the perfect argument for my mother ..........

My birthday is the same day as Orthodox Christmas, and I always felt cheated because Mum insisted that all the traditional decorations came down on 12th Night, leaving the house looking very drab.

I tried to persuade her that they should go back up again in the morning so that I could have a beautifully decorated house for my birthday party.

Didn't work! :-(

Thank you, Elizabeth :-)

We don't make a big fuss of the first Christmas, more so this time around when we have had so many 'celebrations during the Festive Season.

As for my brother, his birthday is actually this coming weekend, but he had an early celebration as his wife, who is Chinese, is returning to China this week for a religious festival in her home town.

Everyone we know is safe and well away from any bush fires, although there was an extremely minor one where my son lives, which was under control within a very short time. A bit worrying as their property has a State Forest on one of its boundaries :-(

I hope that you and your family had an enjoyable, and safe Christmas and New Year.

Once again, thank you for your kind thoughts :-) :-)

Dear Allan

Hello

This rings bells in my belfry!

I remember a school friend who came from an orthodox family.

At the time, I thought she celebrated two versions of Christmas, so two lots of presents!

A belated happy birthday to your brother.

Hope everyone is safe where you and your family and friends are.

Take gentle care
Best wishes
Elizabeth, EOS

Except if you are Orthodox :-D

Tomorrow is our first Christmas of the year.

Mind you, we will both be giving the same kind of presents as we have given each other for many years; nothing!

We've only just returned from Perth where we celebrated my brother's 75th birthday over the weekend :-D
