Do you think it really happened?

I was burgled in the middle of the night in 2013. I went to bed at midnight and hubby got up at 5am and found the front door open and the car gone from the drive. Nothing else taken. Did not hear a thing and the yorkie did not bark. Petrified was not the word. I was too frightened to even get undressed for bed. Bought another dog hoping one would set the other one off if it happened again. Our burglar alarm to this day costs nothing. We have no carpets but Antigua flooring and push 2 stairgates up against the front and back doors. That would make enough noise if someone entered. The man that got in my house was caught and got 4 years xx

I wondered that too. Maybe an ex-employee?

I was surprised it wasn't reported in the local papers.

A timely warning to all of us to check security at home including outhouses, sheds, garage and gates, and make sure car keys and cash are not left within easy reach or sight.

There are some ligh-fingered scum about. Hope they get the insurance claim dealt with promptly and get mobile soon.

Our little Close has been targetted a few times,, the last event being someone trying to strip the lead of someone's porch, but they were disturbed.

Has made me think that we should change where we keep the car keys, though. They are out of sight in the house but could be made more difficult to find.

A greater worry would be to lose our trainee Guide Dog puppy, that would be devastating and dog thefts seem to be increasing.

My nephew, following my brother's example, keeps himself and his family apart from.me and my other brother (he's always been a bit odd) but he is in touch with my son as there's only a month between their ages. He was very spoiled as a child and is quite arrogant.

I do wonder if he's upset anyone as their house is in a village, corner of a cul de sac on a modern estate, and they were obviously targeted as more than one thief was needed to go in and drive away two cars....it wasn't an opportunist thief! I still don't understand why the dogs didn't bark, they are about 8 years old.

It isn't just the cars, it's the car seats and other things in there x 2 and the children's Christmas money too. Strange that it wasn't reported in the local paper, it's the sort of crime that's usually.mentioned.

Gosh Liz how dreadful! Amazing how the dogs didn't bark or disturb them.
Just a thought, how did the thieves know where to find the keys so quickly? Although I cant drive anymore, mine are always in my handbag which I have beside my bed every night.

Hope they are all ok and not too traumatised especially the kiddies.
Hope they catch the terrible people that did this soon.

That is an awful start to the year Liz. I hope they catch whoever did it. Terrible shock for them.

I think I would be very nervous there now but they wouldn't have to wait to get the window secured as nephew works with his father (my brother) at pro's double glazing factory and joinery.

I hope the break in hasn't scared the 6yr old too badly.

Bad enough being burgled when you aren’t at home ,but knowing folks were in your home when you were sleeping would unnerve you for a long time

Would make you very wary about going to bed and dropping off .

That's awful, seems some will always be lower than any of us would like.

Yesterday my nephew (same age as my son) his wife, and two boys 6 and 2 woke up to find both cars gone from the drive! Despite two spaniels in the house, someone had entered their house through a back window, while they slept, and stolen car keys, and a wallet containing the kids' Christmas money. Then they had stolen the cars!

Must be very scary to know someone's been in your home while you and your kids slept. Thank heavens the boys didn't wake up.
