We give each a list and I make sure I put explicit instructions. My OH is pretty good at present buying and this year off list bought a lovely sweater in M&S and a gold chain necklace. He also bought craft bits on line. They were all wrapped and he always buys me a card.

My hubbie was good at any shopping so long as he used MY card for it all

Mr Owl did well this year. A beautiful Swarovski crystal necklace and earring set that looks like sapphires.

I have to say that my hubby is quite good. I give him a list of things I'd like for him to choose from and where to get them, but he also finds me a couple of books he thinks I will like. This year he got me a book that had researched the lives of the women Jack the Ripper murdered and The Invisible Woman which is about the way women are subtly disadvantaged compared with men. He gets and writes his own Christmas cards and the ones for the neighbours. I think him managing in an office of mostly women meant he had to be on the ball with birthday/Xmas cards and gifts. It was good training!

I sometimes feel embarrassed by the kindness & generosity of some neighbours at this time of year who rarely darken my doorway at any other time.

Baa humbug!

We just buy each other one smallish gift, I usually specify a few things I want. This always includes books and he picks one from the list. Simples!

In town very briefly on Monday I noted that the majority of 'actual' shoppers were men: sons, boyfriends or husbands looking fretful and/or desperate, many asking for help from mums/wives on their phones "What can I get....?".

Apropos of that and a comment on FB about husbands not expecting Christmas ( in terms of present buying) even though it comes the same day every year, how does it work in your house?

If you're a wife...how does your husband rate as a shopper for gifts?
and if you're a man....is it done at the last minute and why is that?

You can answer after Christmas also ;-)
