Obtaining dates for death

@ncestry have probate records ( which usually give death date ) , burial indexes and of course public trees often have death dates.

If you're using GR, don't bother! Use freebmd.org.uk ( you'll still need to order certs for exact date) or https://www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/certificates/indexes_search.asp ( for more recent deaths)

On Findmypast they have:-

England & Wales Government Probate Death Index 1960-2019

On at least some of these records it gives the date of death. For instance my mother died in 2003 and on her record it gives the exact date of death.

Mostly though, you will have to buy the death certificate for the exact date.

Does any-one know how to obtain on screen the date of death? I enter death in the relevant box but the site keeps showing Birth dates. Many thanks in advance Tony
