On a larger scale, it would appear that the UK taxpayers' money is allocated unconditionally and that we have little or no diplomatic clout with respect to human rights abroad.

We now have an online site in this province where you can go to check out any charities that are considering donating to, and find out just how much goes to administration and how much really goes to help the ones they claim they are helping. One of the small local charities that OH donates to, and has done for about 25 years, came tops for how little goes to "administration" and how almost everything goes to the people they help.It was surprising to see that they were the top-rated because only 71% of every dollar went to the programmes.

Think what that means for larger charities :-0

I'm not giving the link because it is only for this province.

One of the worst we came across was the Canadian Cancer Society in the late 1980s .............. there have been major changes since then. But we donated money in remembrance of our brother-in-law who died far too young. We were inundated with mailings, and they refused to pay heed to us, so they didn't get any more money after the 3rd year.

BUT what was terrible was how much money was being spent on administration, mailings, etc and how very little was going to cancer research. It was something like 55% to 45% at one point.

This year 61% of money raised goes to cancer research

Other information that I found from that web site ............

Canadian Wildlife Federation ........... 63% goes to the cause

World Wildlife Fund ........... Canadian branch, 71% to the cause

Shriners Hospitals for Children, Montreal ............... 89% (BUT very heavily supported by the Shriners!)

Sick Kids Foundation, Toronto .............. 69%

Canadian Guide Dogs for the Blind .......... 84%

If you google, you may find a similar web site for the UK

It's a shame as they are wasting some of your donation chasing you for more money. I wonder how many others are being chased too?

Hope you get this stopped soon.

Thank You will get on touch with them .

Phone or email them and tell them that if they do not stop sending you requests for more donations, you will stop giving them any money at all. The minute you receive another piece of mail, that will be it.

That works wonders!!!

Incidentally, the same will also work if you do not want them to either pass your name on to other agencies (as some do!!), or if you want to remain anonymous. Tell them if they pass on your name or publish your name in any way (eg, list of donors, or thank you lists), then you will stop donating.

Try ringing them and asking to take your name of their mailing lists

I did this to age U.K. who Michael had been to dementia day care with

At first they were sending him begging letters even though I had informed them he had passed away
Then they were sending to me

I rang and said take me off your mailing list and they were very apologetic and did it immediately but did say it could take six weeks to kick in as they do mailings in advance

I donate to the hospice Michael was in for his last few days as they are a charity with a part NHS funding
