Thanks for your reply. So are they likely to search a six year period?

Have a read through this

http://www.sog.org.uk/learn/help-getting-started-with-genealogy/guide-three

particularly the section "Searching for and ordering certificates" part of which says -

Note that only the fiche indexes at seven designated centres will have the indexes after 2005. These are:

• Birmingham Central Library
• Bridgend Reference and Information Library
• City of Westminster Archives Centre
• Manchester City Library
• Newcastle City Library
• Plymouth Central Library
• The British Library

Depending on what information you want, you may find a probate record which would give you a date of death and date probate was granted. The Registry shown is not necessarily one nearest to the place of death, so unless you have an unusual name to search for, you may not be sure if the record is "yours"

------

There may be an obituary in a local paper - you would have to contact them and ask but unless you have an idea of a death date then that may not be possible and it may cost.

I've already looked at the probate site, connected to this thread I assume?

Some recent deaths are on Ancestry, so it's always worth a search.

I've noticed that a lot of recent records that are on both Ancestry and FMP are not in the usual GRO format, so those sites are getting them from somewhere else ......... maybe obituaries, although there are some other sites that "mine" obituaries and announcements in local newspapers for information, and Ancestry and FMP may get their information from those sites..
