Allan :-D :-D

Dermot - this lot won't introduce workhouses - even though they're needed - it may help someone!

What a ridiculous idea. What do 16/17 year olds know about life in the real world.

Dermot

Dermot Report 30 Oct 2019 12:44

Post-Brexit Workhouses to be introduced.

Denburybob

Denburybob Report 30 Oct 2019 11:47

....that was tongue in cheek, by the way, not to be taken seriously.

Perhaps we should all be put down at 70!

I think this suggestion is only on some younger person's wish list, not to be taken seriously at all. You all know what I mean - I'll say it out loud and see what reaction I get.

Can you imagine that such a move would ever get as far as raising its divisive, derogatory head in Parliament without someone being accused of ageism?

It would have to be a foolhardy MP who raised the question in Parliament when there are several over-70s in the Judiciary and Parliament, not to mention the likes of heads of Ecclestone, Sugar etc. Indeed, would the leader of any party allow anyone from within to raise the question? Not if he/she had any control over its members!

Anyone in public office of any sort would not stand for it for it .... so back to the drawing board, I'm afraid.

It's my belief that it is a suck-it-and-see sort of question that lacks gravitas.

We have coverage from HoC on a TV constantly simply because the media spin words, statements and even tonal inflections. Utterly pathetic biased reporting :-|

Similarly there is an age limit for Jury Service :-|

SheilaSomerset Report 29 Oct 2019 15:41

'Young adults' will deem that 40 is old, so over 70 must be off the scale...

When they reach 50, perhaps they'll see things differently!

Handy that - 2 topic election in December - Brexit & Age Limit.

Where did you see this? Can't say I have seen it and can't see that it will be accepted

Who suggested this ridiculous idea again? Students debated it 4 years ago and this suggested rule was not supported.

Once they’ve got rid of those that have been around the block a few times and seen and experienced the good and the bad, they’ll give the vote to the 16 year olds.
Those 16 year olds who have to get a parents permission to get married, join the army etc and who have not had much experience of life.

So logically is it being suggested that over 70 have no say in what goes on and they have no voice

They don’t want us to ague when they reduce allowances and scrap free tv licences etc etc

It seems to be ignore them as they will pop their clogs soon anyway :-(

Dermot

Dermot Report 29 Oct 2019 14:33

I have no party affiliation. I simply vote for whoever I think is best equipped to run the country fairly.

If the 'age limit' goes ahead, then this December decider could be my last opportunity to cast a dispassionate vote.

Terrifying, isn't it!

Precisely Rollo. Then we could all lead the life of Riley .....

Come to think of it, since I retired, I think I do! :-D
