Under the bus

Arlene Foster says thet the DUP agreed to be "flexible" but her redline that NI retains its full UK status re Customs is unchanged. No ERG or DUP people were at the Thornton Manor meeting which I guess ensured that things went smoothly with Johnson in his element - shafting erstwhile partners and girlfriends/wives.

Despite the optimistic reaction of forex traders and TheTimes I really cannot see this passing parliament on SuperSaturday even if there is something to vote on - Johnson is out of time unless Barnier cuts corners is spectacular fashion.

The Benn Act prevents crashing out on 31 October. So far nobody has found a legal way around it.

Wrightbus might be rescued. Whether or not that is part of the next £bn bung to the DUP is unclear.

Rumours that Stormont may soon be up and running again are a bit previous. Sinn Fein and the DUP are considering a short resumption in order to vote down the Abortion Bill. After that normal service is to resume.

The murder of Castlereagh at Phoenix Park in 1882 casts a very long shadow.

Next: a referendum for Christmas ?

I can't see the ERG being very happy if this means there is a deal.
It could, however, just be a ploy to get parliament's blessing before he asks for an extension, and then failing to complete the necessary legal requirements by 31st thus causing a crash out of the EU.

Bus companies in Northern Ireland with close links to B Johnson are not doing very well. In a fit of pique Johnson appears ready to throw the DUP under said Boris Bus

He and Varadkar have hatched a scheme which puts a border for everything down the Irish Sea, a wet-wet border. N.I. remains in a full stop rather than backstop. At a stroke it fixes all of the Brexit Irish border problems including EU/Barnier demands. No wonder Varadkar looked like the cat who had got the cream on Thursday as the Boris offer would be a huge step towards a reunified Ireland.

Arlene Foster and friends were not asked for their opinion. Do they have the support in parliament to avoid the Boris Bus or not ?

Into the tunnel.
