I was in the local garage this morning collecting the car, and the woman in front of me was trying to persuade the garage to tow her car in for a new tyre.

They were very busy and when it turned out she was a member of the AA, the receptionist suggested that if she got them to bring her car to the garage, they would replace her tyre.

It turned out she had had a puncture, driven as far as she could on the flat tyre!!! and then when she was driving on the rim, left the car in a lay-by, coming into the village on the bus.

Why pay an annual subscription to the AA and then not use them when you need to? Getting them to change the tyre would have been quicker - and free!

She would still have had to pay for a new tyre, but would not have been without the car for several days, or had to pay for possible damage to the wheel rim. :-S

The AA/RAC will only replace a flat tyre for free with a servicable and legal spare. There are any number of tyre companies which will attend a broken down vehicle and replace a flat without charging the earth.

A typical garage outside of London would charge £ 100 for a tow in and even then are rarely set up to deal with tyre problems. If she has been driving on then she might need a new wheel or rim repair which is quite expensive.

I guess some people really are thick.
