Thanks all.

Try John Lewis - they usually have T-shirts with slightly longer sleeves - still above the elbow and they are not too long in the body. They are more expensive, about £20, but the quality is very good and they wash well - mine are three or four years old now and still look good.

No answer from Iris but, no, it's not M and S. They are usually stand-alone stores but, like FatFace, occasionally stores may offer a few items online. Next does with FatFace.

Sea Salt will send you a catalogue, Ann - they don't have stores everywhere. Our nearest store is an hour or so away but our FatFace is nearby.

Morning Ann,

I rarely buy on line as I like to inspect and feel the quality of clothing etc.

I don't go into our city centre stores very often so stores on the edge of the city with car parking outside get my money. We have Matalan, Sainsbury, Tesco, Asda, Aldi and Lidl to choose from so they suit me fine, easy to reach, and they stay open later

I need to dig out my summer things to check for fit, I have finally managed to lose.a little bit of weight and I know all my skirts will need the elastic in the waistbands made tighter.

Hope I haven't jinxed nice weather tho lol

I only went to M&S and Debs Liz because I am not desperate. I was more interested in why they seem to have stopped making them with the longer short sleeve, was it maybe because they were not popular or because, charging the same price as the very short sleeves they were not cost effective.

I do try not to buy on line because that is the reason we are losing our high street shops and I am a weird person who actually likes shopping. :-D :-D

I haven't been in this year but Sainsburys often have nice quality t shirts. Have you tried Matalan or Asda, Ann?

My usual gripe is the length of tops, I am 5'6" and don't want tops down to my bottom. I like them a few inches below my waist so often have to shorten the ones I buy.

The 'driver' likes(d) M&S t shirts.
A couple of times he went in to buy one, only to find they didn't have his size (small).
Apparently, they don't sell many in small.
'Well, you won't if you don't have them in stock, will you?' Was his response!
Logical! :-D

Try Damart. If you google Damart t shirts there are several to choose from. The ones I was looking at are made from cotton jersey, which is heavier weight than some of the others. As they no longer have any stores you have to shop on line, and I haven't actually tried it, but good luck.

Yes that is right, they made a big thing of bringing them in for the more mature woman. I have a couple of times seen them in the outlet stores, old stock I presume.

These go just over your elbow and are similar to the self coloured ones they used to sell a few years ago.

I know now what you mean..just slightly longer than the capped sleeve :-)

AnninGlos Report 4 Jun 2019 19:47

Not three quarter sleeves these were halfway to your elbow fro the shoulder. I will look on line

I just picked up a pink and white striped t-shirt on Sunday. They had none left in the size I wanted so I had to order online on Friday after I'd been in the store. It's longer than I like but none of the stores are doing slightly shorter ones now - unless you want a crop-top. Our local store rarely has petite items so I often have to order online and pick up in store.

Next is brilliant for online orders - order up to midnight and pick up after noon the following day. I know it works a treat as I've ordered at 11.30 pm and picked up the following lunchtime. Laura Ashley takes longer.

All of the ladies in Outfit (Wallis etc) and Next seem to have the wonderful service ethos that M and S staff used to have (the food hall staff are the exception - very good).

Annx, the internal layout of our store sounds like yours. I wonder whether the managers have had similar instructions - if so, the store's a mess, and exactly as you mentioned, cardies here, cardies there, for example. Amazingly, rails were placed that blocked direct entry from door to food hall and, in fact, there was no clear aisle to the door from anywhere in the store. One had to negotiate left, then right, then left ... and so on around rails of clothes and several people mentioned how dangerous that could be in the event of a fire.

If the idea was that we ladies would be tempted by the clothes we had to negotiate around they were wrong. My pals and I are like you - we gave up and bought elsewhere or online.

Ann...they had loads when I went last week.....they are on a floor stand all different patterns....sleeves which go over elbow..if that’s what you mean...think they were about. £8 :-D :-D :-D

EDIT Ann if you go on their website and click on 3/4 sleeve T-shirt they are all there.

I too have bingo wings

Lost a lot of weight from stress with hubby's health problems in 2015 and losing him

I am going on holiday with our daughter and son in law in July and with a bigger weight allowance I wanted some more tops

So went Into M&S to look at tops I saw online. Well they didn't look good quality but may do,!!

But the rails said to size 24 but biggest was 20!! Asked a sales lady what size do these go to ?? 24 was the answer ,But the biggest on here is 20 was my reply

A big shrug was the response!!!

So I walked out

No wonder they lose customers

this is their range - they may not have it in your local one, you can order online for home delivery or collect at your local shop.

I like their shoes as I am a size 3 and often order them and send them to my daughter's as I arrive in UK saves having to search for them. :-D

I've not been surprised at their downturn in sales Ann. I long for the return of those days when they had good staple garments like T shirts in a variety of colours and necklines, all grouped together, so you could easily find what you want. Now after you have given up looking for say a navy cardigan in the style you want, you stumble across some in another place having moved on to looking at dresses. I rarely buy a whole outfit at once, usually it's to add to what I've already got and I want to see all they have of that item together in one place. I know what you mean about those longer sleeves and you would think they would still do some as they are useful. On me they come just below my elbow, but I like that length as well. :-D

A couple or three years ago M&S brought out tee shirts with slightly longer sleeves (for the mature lady with bingo wings!!) I really liked them, they were comfortable and flattering. However, This year I have not seen any tee shirts in M&S that have not got really short sleeves.

And today I was looking for a plain white one - they always sold those. The only ones they had looked as though they had been dug out of the laundry basket, all creased and thin fabric. So, for first time ever I bought a Jasper Conran one in Debenhams at double the price. and this one is not a nice thick tee shirt fabric but at least it doesn't look like a dish rag.
