Renewing membership

Has anyone renewed a standard long term membership lately? I've just had an email from Genes saying I need to give them a new card number as the one they have has expired but they are quoting £17.96p for the year whereas it was £8.96p last year. Seems like a bit of a jump to me.

mine was renewed a few weeks ago, for the £8:96 fee
March 20th.

"You have been billed £8.96 GBP for a 12 month Standard membership."

Thanks very much to both of you. I think I will get in touch with them and see what they say. My email is exactly the same as yours Bob, except that the amount says £17.96 which I've never paid before.

Paid mine on April 19th, it was £8.96 for year. You were a member before me, Kath, so don’t know why genes would quote you a higher price. Have you contacted them about it?

Mine was renewed about 6 months ago and was also £8.96. I don't have It on auto renew.

I did contact support and they said it was because I was trying to renew by credit card (I don't have one!) but the email I got from them said it was probably because my card number had changed. As it happens I do have it on auto renew because I used to pay by debit card but for some reason I didn't get the usual email giving a few weeks notice before renewal. Anyway by the time they did email saying my card may need updating I was out of membership.

I checked last year's emails and I had the same trouble so paid by cheque, so asked if I could do the same again this year and if I did would it be £17.96 or £8.96. They said a cheque would be ok but didn't mention the charge so I just sent off a cheque for £8.97 and they accepted it and reinstated my membership.

I don't intend to pay more than the bare minimum as I don't use the site anywhere near as much as I did 15 years ago and the site isn't nearly as busy as it used to be.

Kath .............

I didn't get an email from them earlier this year, but I did notice by accident that there was a RENEW on the top line, where I don't usually look.

Yes, I noticed that too Sylvia - but only after they had sent the email asking for the higher amount, probably because I haven't been on the site so much just lately as I have recently had a hip replacement so had other things to do (hospital appointments and physio etc.)

Thank you for the prompt Sylvia.
I've just noticed a renew in my top line too and have just renewed for the year.
No e mail reminder was sent.

The prices quoted have always shown vast variety with no apparent reason.
