Cigarettes

I'm watching a film on TV, Guns of Navarrone, everybody has a cigarette in their
hand or hanging from their lips. In all the previous films all or most of the actors were smokers. Until the last 3 decades it seemed everyone was a smoker.
Dean Martin, singer, actor, comedian wasn't killed by alcohol, he never had a cigarette out of his hand. Like everyone else he didn't know it was an addiction.
Those who make and market cigarettes ought to be held to account
Costing the NHS a fortune, and many a smoker their lives.

and the government a fortune in tax ;-)

A cigarette is a pinch of tobacco rolled by a thin piece of paper, a light at one end & a foolish person at the other.

Smoking cigarettes is an addiction, I was an addict for nearly 40 years :-(

If the Government wasn't making so much in tax they'd have banned them long ago.

If every cigarette tasted like the first one, we would'nt finish the packet !!

When I was much younger I recall a specialist on TV saying
"the greatest single preventable cause of premature death is smoking cigarettes"

I have never known anybody to be rushed to hospital on a cigarette or firefighters to arrive on one.

The initial coughing and spluttering when smoking is the lungs rejecting that which has
been inhaled. Repeatedly doing this damages, then destroys the lungs.
In fires it is smoke inhalation rather than fire that is the killer. The lungs need to provide oxygen to the heart so that everything else can function. For smoking tobacco products to be addictive must be due to an "addition" by the cigarette manufactures.?

I smoked from 1957 - 1996, early on lost the ability run, a symptom, so I consider
myself to be very fortunate.

For the first sixteen years of my marriage, my wife , a non smoker must have
thought I stunk, my breathe, my clothes.
I didn't notice until I'd been off cigarettes a few months.

Yeah and don't forget all the tins of cigarettes sent to the troops in WW1 from the King and Queen and the government.

The powers that be insisted that a warning be put on the cigarette packet

WARNING Cigarettes damage your health. Then, they took to illustrations of

cancerous lungs and heart, putting the tax up still higher. People still bought them.

If the warning had said SMOKING CIGARETTES CAUSES ERECTILE

DYSFUNCTION they might have had more success ?

It is a wonder erectile dysfunction would be a problem if you stank of fag ash and smoke.

Erectile dysfunction & the accidental discovery of the 'Pill' were discussed on the radio earlier this week.

Very educational.

Some studies have suggested that smoking may increase the chance of developing penile cancer. This may be because harmful chemicals found in cigarettes are excreted in the urine which may then interact with secretions that can build up under the foreskin of an uncircumcised man resulting in abnormal cell changes in the penis.

Around 630 people die of this in the UK each year.

It does not just affect men. One of my old biddies had her bits off. It seems that smoking can hit either sex in the parts.

I'm old enough to remember the Dawn Chorus.
Someone would start a paroxysm of coughing til they spat.
Then the cougher would light a Woodbine or roll one.
Then another would start coughing then light up.
You would hear someone next door having a cough then a howk.
When it happened on a bus upstairs, everyone joined in.
