A family member always believed her father was Scottish, was very proud of the heritage.

Probably a good job she wasn't capable of understanding by the time I discovered he had been born in Lancashire of Irish immigrant parents, had spent 2 years as a boy sailor, along with at least 2 of his brothers. All were enlisted at the age of 12 ............. I've been told it was usually considered "punishment for bad boys").

He only went to Scotland after WW1. That's where he met his Scottish wife, and where their children were born before they moved back to Lancashire, about 20 miles from where he grew up!

It took many years of searching before I (with the help of someone on here) found his parents as listed on his marriage certificate. We spent fruitless hours searching in Scotland!

Family stories should not be believed absolutely ............. it's all hearsay!!!
