I was recently looking for books by Frederick Forsythe,
Found The Day of the Jackal hard back, used, ONE PENNY plus postage. It had been a former library book. How do they make a profit ?

I've got most annoyed in recent years when finding that an author I have been collecting over several years is suddenly NOT having printed books, but their new titles are available only on Kindle from a major Canadian bookstore or Amazon, at about the same price as a paperback.

So far that has happened with 3 authors.

I don't want to get a Kindle.

I had look in to Amazon and through using administrator and deleted four books from my Kindle. Do you know I'd read the Harold Frederick Shipman story twice ? What a sinister character !! He'd previously been in practice as a partner elsewhere in Hyde before leaving, setting up his own practice and taking nearly half their patients with him. His wrong doings must have made a lot of people "scared" or wary to go the GP.

Perhaps I've got it wrong? but I thought if you had Amazon Prime you could use the free Kindle books like a library but they would only stay downloaded for four weeks - or did that mean a separate subscription?

David, once you’ve opened up Amazon, type free kindle books in their search box. You can filter the results by genre via the tick list on the left hand side of the results page.

Yes, many of the offerings are by new ‘indie’ authors but not all. Some are from established writers. It’s a way of enticing new readers who may go on to purchase another book written by them.

It’s worth looking every couple of weeks. Some ‘free’ books will have been removed from the list or now changed for, others added.

I have never experienced that with Amazon/Kindle.Is the "free" publication to launch a new author? I have taken advantage of the collection type books, where they sell a dozen authors between two covers for a £1. What I do find is that I prefer the books that I have chosen by author and title, and the price is then higher, but still fair. You can borrow books from Amazon, then return or delete them. I've always been a reader but in recent years much more So.Instead of a huge clutter of books Inside of a paper back size Kindle. It was late in life when I chose to buy one, but I'm impressed.
How the technology can transfer a book that was maybe a year in the making to my Kindle is something I will never understand, only appreciate :-)
Did I mention Solitaire and Sudoku on it too ? Wonderful.

Some authors do leave you hanging so that you’ll buy the next instalment. Others, if it’s a series, will have a completed story line with one theme to continue.

It’s worth reading some of the reader reviews. You can get some idea if the lack of an ending had frustrated their enjoyment.

I have downloaded a lot of free books. You have to look where it usually tells you the number of pages. It will then sometimes say it is a sample or taster book.

Have downloaded lots of free kindle books from Amazon and have never come across the problem of having to buy a book to find the ending.

Sounds as if it's a sample to see if you want to read the book.

Hi all,
Has anyone on here downloaded the free kindle books from Amazon?

I did this for my oh and as he gets near to the end of the stories it says
' if you want to know how this end please buy the book'

Seems a bit pointless to me, not having the whole book even if it is free.
