So went to the joint clinic yesterday where what is involved in total knee surgery was gone over in detail

Am so can I cope ?? It's usually a spinal but you are also asleep

A tournaque is put on the thigh to stop the blood flow so enormous bruising wiil happen this will be painful, maybe more than the actual knee op!!

I also have lower back problems so am worried I can do the after op exercises

I need the op but am will it sort out my mobility??

Am really not sure I am making the right decision

Panic !! Am I going to regret getting the knee done

I live in my own and realiy need to be mobile as long as I can

Not downplaying at all....is it hopefully them "just" really playing this worse case and in all likelihood that won't happen??

Yes they did say some of the fails were unusual but they have to say it's a possible so you know and still consent to the op

Is a bit freaky though thinking I could be one of the failed

I live on my own so not being mobile isn't an optionn

My local hospital prefer a full anaesthetic ,so you can,t hear what’s going on, unless medical needs say an epidural.

I have some lower back problems and the hospital physio was quite happy with me reducing some of the exercises.

If you can, it is worth starting some of the ankle, feet twiddling before you go in then it seems quite natural to do them. After the op twiddle them as often as you can. And do some of the other exercises.
I was out on my crutches doing the little walks as soon as I got home. (It was only a partial). Managed to get permission to drive at 5 weeks rather than 6. Was given advice to sit in the car and try the pedals before begging.

And, surely you can ask for some home help. Before I went in I got a tall chair to use - only way to get in and out of the bath once the plaster was off.
Good luck whichever you choose.

I have got 2 'bionic' knees Shirley and I can honestly say although painful it sounds a lot worse when described that when it is done. <3

I have had both knees done and although it is a bit of a struggle at first with the exercises it was well worth having them done. I got an infection in the first one so after two months was back in hospital for a fortnight getting it sorted, but even after that setback I still went ahead 4 months later and had the second knee done. That was 11 years ago and I'm now waiting for a hip replacement. The knee on the side of my bad hip is now giving me grief but I'm reliably informed that this should sort itself out once the hip is done.
