Somebody has sent me a card/letter without a stamp on it or without a large enough stamp.. It will cost £2 to collect it plus the petrol to get there. Or I can stick £2 worth of stamps on the card and send it back.

Not got £2 worth of stamps nor the time to drive across Gloucester and queue for ages to collect it so sorry, that will be one card I won't have.

That happened to me last year,a £1 was required to get it.

I pondered before deciding I would like to know who sent it,so paid up...and,,,it was not signed either :-D

Managed to work out it was from a cousin!

My new in-laws from over the Pond sent us a Christmas box.

I had a card to go and get it from the sorting office which is a fair trek away.

When I got there, I had to pay import tax on it!!

Ah yes it mentioned that if it was from abroad import tax would be due.

They will keep it for 18 days, I will keep the card and think about collecting it in the new year as I really don't have the time now.

The first ever Christmas card to arrive in Ireland came from America.

Lovely coloured picture of the Holy Family resting in the stable with the newborn sleeping happily enough in the Manger because, as you know, the Inn was fully booked in advance online.

To be fair, most Christmas cards would have a few Dollar notes included to help out the poor remaining family back in the old country. There was one old farmer & it was said of him that when the card arrived at his abode, he would eagerly rip open the envelope & shake it upside down. If no dollar(s) fell out of the envelope, he wouldn't bother his head to read the greeting inside. :-P

Some cards are very deceiving in their size and a lot of people think they only need a normal stamp on the envelope, but they are actually large letter size. The Royal Mail will then surcharge the recipient with a £1 fee plus the shortfall in the postage. It is always worth checking at the post office counter if you are unsure.

I had one this week from UK with a 2nd class stamp on it :-S how it got through I don't know :-D

Our old regular postman used to let them through. I think this had been picked up in the sorting office though.

I have had several where the stamps aren't franked, but damn postie has scribbled over them with a biro!
