WHAT DID THE PROFESSIONALS MAKE OF WALES’ WIN AGAINST SCOTLAND LAST SATURDAY?

SHAUN HOLLEY (Former Rugby Union Player now a Broadcaster and Rugby Union Coach) on Sunday night’s SCRUM V......


DEFENCE:
Shaun praised Wales’ strong defence under the expert coaching of SHAUN EDWARDS (Wales’ Defence Coach)

He said Wales were “as usual very aggressive- a nuisance value at the defensive tackle” This caused “Slow Ball” for Scotland’s Scrum Half ALI PRICE. In this regard he praised Wales’ Props NICKY SMITH and DILLON LEWIS.
He called the Wales Captain, Lock ALUN-WYN JONES, A REAL NUISANCE!!!

Also coming in for praise were CORY HILL, JUSTIN TIPURIC and also DAN LYDIATE (for his often unseen work). These men also slowed down the ball making it hard for Price and Scotland.

Wales Scrum Half GARETH DAVIES “was one of those spooking ADAM HASTINGS (Scotland’s Fly-Half)” as was GARTH ANSCOMBE.

When the ball did get through the defensive line of the Welsh then “The experienced LEIGH HALFPENNY was there to cover it” said Holley.

He praised the low tackling of Wales Hooker KEN OWENS. They “forced Turn-Overs”, he said

IN fact, he said ....”THEY HAD ALL BASES COVERED!”



ATTACK:
Shaun Holley said that ROB HOWLEY (Attack Coach) is getting the best out of back row carriers like Tips (Justin Tipuric). Also there were “lots of detail” in the lead up to tries. Team Effort.

He praised MORIARTY & GEORGE NORTH in the lead up to that AMAZING JONATHAN DAVIES TRY.

Scotland DID get over the Tryline three times! Two Tries of course were disallowed, but it did show a chink in the armour of the Wales defence.

* Former English Rugby Union Player and Coach ANDY ROBINSON was impressed by Wales’ Centre JONATHAN DAVIES. “What a hand-off from THE FOX!” He was talking of course of that impressive run that finished off with an amazing Try.

This was when Wales beat Scotland in the Inauguration of the Doddie Weir Cup last Saturday, when the beat the Scots 21 – 10.

Following that game, Scotland’s Head Coach GREGOR TOWNSEND said that Wales put together the strongest team . “Excellent players ....... they are one of the best teams in the world at Rank 3 ...... That was a game where we had enough pressure, territory and opportunities to win”


Wales Winger, GEORGE NORTH, said “The first game has always been a bit of a stumbling block – A BIT RUSTY round the edges but nice to get a win. A tough game, the boys are physically tired but it’s building nicely”



TODAY v AUSTRALIA

Wales’ Head Coach WARREN GATLAND said “It was Wales’ first game for 4 months (v Scotland) and there were lots of positives to build on....”

But Warren has also warned that Australia would be a much bigger challenge....
"To be honest, if we came up against Australia today I think we would have struggled, just with them having come off the Rugby Championship," Wales head coach Gatland said.

LIAM WILLIAMS - THE BOMB DIFFUSER! :-D :-D :-D

It’s good to see Liam Williams back for Wales today, albeit on the bench.


Last week, Wales “friendly” game v Scotland fell outside the International Window.
Since Liam now plays his club rugby for English Club Saracens, the rules in connection with this meant he was unable to be up for selection. But that did not stop him being at the game! He was there to support his country as a spectator.


Liam has won 48 Senior Caps (and another 8 Caps for Wales Under 20s)
Under the new WRU 60 Cap rule, Liam is still able to be selected for Wales, likely as his contract with Saracens began before the new rule was put into operation.

27 year old Liam, who won 106 Caps for The Scarlets (Llanelli based Provincial Club) and put 166 Points on the score board, before signing for Saracens for the start of the 2017-2018 Season.

In the first game of this season, Liam scored a HAT TRICK for the Saracens just 25 minutes off the bench

Liam usually plays Wing for Wales but can also play Full-Back. In whichever position he plays, he is an exciting player to watch.


***STAMMER

What most people do not know about Liam Williams is that he suffers from a stammer which has worsened since he has had to deal with the pressures of the media.

Speaking in an interview for Scrum V, he explained that he gets a feeling of panic and worries that he will not be able to speak, when they suddenly stick a camera or a microphone in his face, which they tend to do especially after he’s played for Wales.

He says there are days when he can speak normally, but he also has days when he can’t “string a sentence together”. That’s why he doesn’t do a lot of TV work.


On hearing this, the panel on Scrum V said that he should not worry. He has the power to help others with a similar problem they admonished.

Peter Jackson (The Rugby Paper) said that he takes his hat off to him for his courage. He said “Don’t be afraid to do your interviews. Everyone loves you. Everyone will understand” He said that Liam was in good company. Among others King George VI!
