Well what next? I have just read some news on the net saying some schools have banned skirts and introduced a "gender neutral"uniform which is trousers that are plain grey, shirt, tie, jumper etc.This is so children who may have gender issues wont be discriminated against.

But can someone tell me isn't making girls wear trousers discriminating? What if you have a male who thinks he is female and wants to wear a skirt? The school says this is also a chance to make young girls cover up their legs as the skirts they wear are far too short.


I think the world has just gone completely bonkers!


I personally think that until a person has reached the age of 18, thinking about changing ones gender should not be on the agenda surely.


many youngsters through their teens can be confused by love and lust and their sexuality until they have matured and understand what they are.


However, I do believe that if none of these documentaries and issues are shown to young people, there would be far less children with gender issues. Im not saying the issues don't exist.But all these things almost seem like fashions.


When we were younger, there was no gender issues that we were informed about.I know many gay people hid their sexuality but being gay is not quite the same as changing your gender is it?


Does anyone else agree or am I sounding a bit out of date?


If we allow our children to grow up at a normal rate instead of 9 yr olds wearing heels and makeup etc I really think we wouldn't have the problems our youngsters face today.


How can an 11 year old decide he wants to change from male to female when he hasn't become a fully gown male or female?

What is THAT going to do to a child's mind

What ever decision the school makes, someone will object. Personally I feel that trousers for all is the best option. For one thing, it would cause less disruption to heterosexual males who are surrounded by young females in pelmets.

Gender dysphoria has always been around. Now it’s being recognised & talked about. In some instances, the parents think that dressing up as the opposite gender is a sign they were born in ‘the wrong body’. In fact, young children are mirroring the carer adults around them. Society seems more concerned if a boy wants to wear ‘girls’ clothes than the other way around.

I'm inclined to agree with you Detective. The teenage girls from the school just up the road from us walk by in little more than pelmets as you say and they aren't ladylike when they bend over either! With the potential arguments and hoiking up of skirts, trousers are the easier option to police. It's no different to the workplace where you can't wear just what you like for some jobs. It wouldn't do for nurses to be wearing 'pelmets' on a cardiac ward would it! :-D

I do agree with the skirts being very short.That is a distraction for many so for that reason yes trousers would be a good option.

I also agree that children are mirroring adults.

When we are born, we have within us certain traits, characteristics etc but much is learnt and taught to us....

Edit; How will the strict religions who don't allow women to wear"men's clothing"(trousers)deal with this?

As they usually do, Florence, by denying the girls an education.

Although it was many years ago I was saved from the distraction of skirts, pelmet or otherwise; I attended an all-boys school :-(

Mind you, there were a couple of all girls schools, as well as a mixed gender one on the bus route to my school, so I wasn't totally denied any distraction :-D

Haha Allan. I also went to a single sex girls school but if when having maths lessons we looked out of the window, we could see the boys playing rugby over the other side of a high fence.That was the highlight of the day!


In my area there is one such church where women cant wear trousers, make up or jewellery except a wedding ring, cut their hair.It would be very interesting to see what would happen if they banned skirts up here!
