My late husband was a Queens scout selling programmes on the Mall on Coronation day I still have all the letters he received first telling him the dress code travel plans and how he should behave at all times and lastly a thank you.He told me he came home very tired and very wet but he had a good view of every thing and yes I have a programme to. |

I was 4 and it was the first time I saw a TV. My aunt had one for the coronation and she invited lots of people to watch it. We children sat on the floor and the adults sat behind us. Those who lived close bought their own chairs.Food was supplied by everyone. |

I remember when the King died, I was 9, I can't remember anyone crying but they may have done!! I was 10 1/2 at the Coronation, and I remember it quite quite well. Watching it on our Telly built by my stepfather, with other family members. It rained nearly all day! and was cold! I can remember going up to the Town Hall with my parents for the bun throwing, and the market place in the evening for the Ox spit roast. Everyone was very happy and very hopeful. How long ago it seems! I had a coronation crown worth 5/- given to me by my step grandfather. I think I had a coach and horses too :-S!! |
