Too many Family History shows?

Is the Southeast going to sink under the number of family history shows.

This weekend has the Name event at Earls Court. Tickets could only be pre ordered - oddly they are now taking cash on the door. For me, they confirmed the stands a bit too late.

The London Event is back later in the year at Sandown Race Course, good motorway access and lots of free parking AND they are moving into the larger hall. Cheaper than the Name event.

Even SWAG is moving up to Swindon presumably for a new catchment group. (Like the look of this one, cheap and next to the Outlet Centre ;-)

Now the Family Tree magazine are advertising a another new show for next year. Sorry, won't be putting this one in my diary - it's at Ally Pally. Too far.

Must be a nightmare for FH groups deciding which event is worthwhile.

OOH! I miss Olympia. :-(

Wasn't aware of any FH shows in the SE. Perhaps the 'hobby' outings aren't as popular as they once were.

Once you've been to a couple, the next seems much the same.

The Lost Cousins Newsletter notes the new show:

Can't say I've heard of the others.

The one at Sandown Park is run by the people who have done the show at York for years. The first one in the south was last year.

SWAG is the South West Area Group who have had biannual shows at Weston Super Mare for some years.

No idea who ran the Name event.

If you add in all the smaller events run by the local FH societies then you are heading for over doing it all. Would the income raised by the FHS's cover costs of attending all these events?

I thought I,d bring this up again

Tomorrow, Saturday, it,s Sandown park, looking bigger and better than last year.

New shows next year are family tree live at Alley palley , April, roots tech at the excel in October. Plus, I assume all the old local ones and the London event at Sandown park.

And another new one in Birmingham at the nec in June : the genealogy show, organised by professional genealogists.
