I suppose it comes from a long way back. After all, had Britain not been arrogant enough to think it knew better how to run a good part of the world a couple of centuries ago, and exploited the people, there would probably be very few blacks and Asians living here now.

The Polish people are coming from a purely economic base which, I would have thought, would have made them more keen to embrace all the other cultures in the interests of trade.

exactly our local asian shopkeepers provide for all and really embrace being part of the community. Wouldn't be without them.

That is the one thing that truly annoys me about Poles. I like to try new things sometimes and see things in Polish shops that might well be interesting but you can't keep on asking what they are.

If I go into an Asian retail outlet it is usually to buy sweets and I know exactly where I am with those!

i know it has caused some unease, i have lived here for 30 years and my neighbours from different ethnic cultures have been here for quite some time.
We have always had a muliticultural area and it was nice. But now the area has been flooded by one community. We had a nice mixture of local shops but many are now polish shops where nothing is written in English which makes it difficult for the locals.
I know i am getting old and find it difficult to deal with change but i do feel that along with others that their seems to be little attempt to integrate.

But on a lighter note i really had a good chuckle when some neighbours down the road had a party and i had to listen to the Birdie Song in polish, bad enough in english

Apart from the two rather 'exclusive' phrases - 'eliminating homelessness amongst poles' - Homelessness should be eliminated full stop, and - 'promotion of polish culture and traditions' - surely the Poles should do that, themselves - there are some good points.
Shame the two above statements are also likely to be the cause of some tension.

Politicians will promise to build a bridge over a dried-up river.

I love the bit about abolishing council tax!

Who is going to step in, in place of the local council, to fund it all?? :-)

Some of it is. There are some pretty good points in it but I know Mussolini made the trains run on time.

They are only offering their fellow Poles what we all want and, of course, we could all pop off to Warsaw and do the same.

I unfortunately live in NW london Had a leaflet from the Polish Pride.
They stand for
improving security in the neighbourhood, road patrols after dark
eliminating homelessness amongst poles, battling substance abuse
free specialised english language and vocational courses
offering the assistence of a friendly office
help for socially excluded people
promotion of polish culture and traditions
heal this divided capital city
protect all eu citizens in the uk
europhobia to become a crime
build 1000000 new homes in london
plant 1000000 street trees
abolish council tax

I dont know whether to laugh or cry
and i bet they will win seats
