My girl has a whistling kettle she got fed up of electric ones breaking down,,,,,,,I used to use one many years ago without the whistle on,as like me a a child it got used as a play whistle by the children,

My spare kettle is a 'whistler' :-D

Poor little wrens. I do like them when they pop into the garden :-) But with cats it's very much 'hunting the wren'.

Returning to kettles, back when I was young we had 'whistlers', they were fun...and you could steam open letters with them ;-)

In London we have a J Sainsbury basics which looks a bit snazzier than its predecessor - also JS Basics. The first one which lasted 7 years not bad for a fiver. Under my dec. mum's control it worked hard. The new one does the job of firing up for my daily Gunpowder Green Tea (n milk). It also delivers for shaving if I have time.

We also have a big flatbased kettle on the AGA which my father bought back in 1964. The AGA runs on gas.

The French (inc me) don't stop every 10 mins to drink tea or coffee and as a result few French households possess a kettle for heating hot water. By and large they don't own toasters either.

I once explained "le tea break" tp a French trade unionist. He thoguht it was a marvellous idea the only drawback being that there were so many existing breaks of one sort and another he could not see how to fit it in.

Silly Me! When I bought my kettle last week I also replaced my Tea, Coffee & Sugar pots. They are shaped a bit like the bottom bit of a windmill & now I won't be able to reach the bottom with a normal teaspoon. Will have to find some long handled ones like they have for ice cream floats.

We have a red plastic Wilco one which was £12 which works fine.

I won't have a metal one as they get hot on the outside and are a burn hazard.

If a kettle works but starts not pouring well try removing any limescale from round the spout area as the water "sticks" to that and dribbles rather than leaving cleanly.

I’ve been pleased with my Igenix stainless steel kettle which I’ve had quite a while. I can’t remember how much I paid but I wouldn’t have paid a lot for it. I think I got it at Tesco.

I think it pot luck with kettles I've paid £15 to one of £65 and neither have lasted long

dont make them like they used to.

I dont like plastic jug ones as they make the water taste tainted.

A kettle :-0 I haven’t had a kettle for a few years now I have a filtered hot tap, they are amazing! No waiting for a cuppa or hot water bottle it’s instant. There not cheap but absolutely well worth the investment :-D

I just renewed from the Range abt £25 its bullet brushed metal copper colour, and so far ok although noisy ,,,,,,,have tried all makes and none live up to the old chrome Swan spare which was mothers.

My last kettle lasted ages but, I replaced last year because it was rather noisy.
I could hear it from my bed when OH was making his morning coffee.

I got a glass one.
Not just as noisy but, it's not quiet.

I wouldn't recommend it if you have a lot of limescale.
We are in a soft water area and I feel the need to descale this kettle frequently.

Not because the small amount of inevitable limescale is any worse than before but because.... it can be seen through the glass!

I have just renewed my jug kettle which didn't pour at all well. Water all over the place. My new one is a Beko from ESK for £24.99. It pours a treat.

Mine too Dermot. I am not remotely awake until after the second mug.

My world might as well come to an end if I cannot have my early morning large mug of hot coffee. ;-)

I like Morphy Richards for their customer service but I would say to not get that shape of kettle and to be careful of their offers which can be cheaper in Argos.

Next kettle will be a jug for me again.

I was looking at those online Sharron as elderly friend wanted to know the price of them now, her Morphy Richards has just bust (after 22 years which isn't bad going) she was a bit shocked at the price :-)
