Swan do that well, think about how they swim....all smug above the water and madness under water

maggiewinchester

maggiewinchester Report 12 Apr 2018 23:54

Never thought of that!

....but was his 'Royal' smugness hiding his panic?

Caroline

Caroline Report 12 Apr 2018 23:52

Aren't all Swans smug what with them all being Royal and all.

maggiewinchester Report 12 Apr 2018 23:50

YES! I want to know if the swan was making himself go faster, or was panicking!!!
He looked quite smug to me (general body language etc.), but swans don't have much facial expression - I don't want to think he may have been scared, or I'll feel awful!!!

...but does it make the boat go faster?

You "gull wing" a sailing boat when running before the wind, mainsail on one side and the jibsail on the other.
Often a "jib stick" is used to hold the jibsail out as a jib on a dinghy doesn't have a boom and without it the sail would easily collapse inwards.

It is.

We will go again when it's warmer.
That sounds like we don't go very often - we do - and find new places every time :-D

Ringwood is a lovely place for sure....even on half close Wednesdays.

When I was a child from about 8 to 15 we used to go to Ringwood for our Sunday school outing (from Fareham), kids on the coach parents who had cars followed the coach. so simple, sports...... sack races, 3 legged, a huge field with cut grass that we made into dens and tea in a local church hall, returning home sunburnt (no sunscreen in those days) and tired and happy. :-) :-)
