Dear Jem and All

Hello

Haven't seen a flipping thing!

Too much cloud.

One of the best celestial events I saw was the eclipse on 11 August 1999 in London.

I watched in the local park as the sky turned pink and then darker blue.

Buses and cars turned on their headlights and the birds thought it was bedtime.

A lot of people had those special eye shades that were available from Boots.

Take gentle care
Love Elizabeth, EOS
xx

Hi Elizabeth :-)

I'm sorry that you haven't been able to see the Perseids this year. The weather has let us down yet again!

I remember the 1999 eclipse. I had not managed to get the shades and we tried to make a mirror contraption with which to see it, but it was not very good.

It did go very very eerie, didn't it!

Hope you are well Elizabeth xxx

We had a beautifully clear sky last night. I stood outside for a while, but it was not easy to get away from the street lights, so I moved to just inside the back door away and thought I might have seen one or two darting trails, but nothing for sure and nothing like I've seen in previous years.
Perhaps I should have waited longer, or was I looking in the wrong direction? Maybe it's past peak time and there was no display to see...........?

Hi Gwyn :-)

Sorry that you were disappointed. Perhaps they much fewer now, and so you would need to be fortunate enough to be in the right place and looking in the right direction at the right time.

I found this info about this year's Perseids in the UK.
https://www.metoffice.gov.uk/events/perseid-meteor-shower#?date=2018-08-17
It says that they can come from any direction. The time I was watching, most of them were going toward the south.

Well we have the Orionids next.
The Orionid meteor shower will peak 21- 22nd October between midnight and dawn
