	Today, Remembrance Day, at approximately 11:00 am Canadian time, I discovered something I had not previously known. The Canadian National Vimy Memorial at Vimy Ridge, Pas-de-Calais, France was built after WW1 to commemorate the fallen soldiers of war, and as a symbol of remembrance and peace. During WW2, the German army knew exactly what the monument stood for, and surrounded it with a platoon of Waffen SS throughout the whole time, in order to protect the site from both German and Allied armies. The monument remained untouched.
