Assassination of King Monmouth

The Duke of Monmouth had his his head chopped off on this day in 1685 after declaring himself King during the Monmouth Rebellion.

Where I live is only a couple of miles from where he was captured at the end of the Battle of Sedgemoor (the last battle to be fought on English soil). He was found hiding in a ditch.
