The government has closed around 16 prisons in the past four years and as a result many prison officers were made redundant, albeit some took voluntary redundancy. It looks like they are going to do with prison officers - what they did with regular armed forces personnel with their plan to replace them with reservists.

I think the Justice Secretary Chris Grayling has been taking advice from his colleague Philip Hammond the Defence Secretary, there again maybe this is a government policy that we will see introduced to other services such as the police, fire, ambulance, and other similar services - I say this because:-

The government is planning to set up a reserve force of prison officers for England and Wales, the BBC has learned.

The initiative was described by the Ministry of Justice as the HM Prison Service Reserve, in a letter sent to ex-prison officers to gauge interest.

Those who sign up could be called in on short-term contracts from August.

The MoJ explained in the letter the move would help it respond to short-term demands, such as a rise in inmate numbers or "operational pressures".

Researching:
I am researching the Wotherspoon family from the Old/New Monkland areas of Scotland, some moved to the Leslie and Kelty areas of Fife and I'm having problems linking the Wotherspoon's from Leslie and the Wotherspoon's from Kelty. I am also researching the Clusker family from Co. Meath in Ireland who moved to West Lothian and from there to Fife............"Vita non est vivere sed valere vita est"
